An extremely destructive category 5 cyclone (Saffir-Simpson), Tropical Cyclone Pam, struck Vanuatu on the evening of 13 March 2015, causing serious damage to infrastructure across the capital Port-Vila. We studied the coastal change, flash flood and damages effects three months after super cyclone. A flash flood affected one slumurb in Port-Vila. We studied the main features of the flood and also the vulnerability of the residents. The tropical cyclone produced storm surges and extensive inundation on severals parts of the coasts. The maximum wave heights reached five meters. Washover deposits and testimonies were used to map the flooding. Coastal changes (washover and erosion shape) indicated the coastal morpho-sedimentary responses to extreme event. Whereas cyclone advice to work very well (only eleven victims), the coastal risks and flood seem to be unknown or underestimated despite a very high exposure and vulnerability to risk.
