@article{fdi:010072483, title = {{G}lacier-wide summer surface mass-balance calculation : hydrological balance applied to the {A}rgentiere and {M}er de {G}lace drainage basins ({M}ont {B}lanc)}, author = {{V}iani, {A}. and {C}ondom, {T}homas and {V}incent, {C}. and {R}abatel, {A}. and {B}acchi, {B}. and {S}icart, {J}ean-{E}mmanuel and {R}evuelto, {J}. and {S}ix, {D}. and {Z}in, {I}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{W}e present the glacier-wide summer surface mass balances determined by a detailed hydrological balance (s{SMB}hydro) and the quantification of the uncertainties of the calculations on the {A}rgentiere and {M}er de {G}lace-{L}eschaux drainage basins, located in the upper {A}rve watershed ({F}rench {A}lps), over the period 1996-2004. {T}he spatial distribution of precipitation within the study area was adjusted using in situ winter mass-balance measurements. {T}he s{SMB}hydro performance was assessed via a comparison with the summer surface mass balances based on in situ glaciological observations (s{SMB}glacio). {O}ur results show that the s{SMB}hydro has an uncertainty of +/- 0.67 m w.e.a(-1) at {A}rgentiere and +/- 0.66 m w.e.a(-1) at {M}er de {G}lace-{L}eschaux. {E}stimates of the {A}rgentiere s{SMB}hydro values are in good agreement with the s{SMB}glacio values. {T}hese time series show almost the same interannual variability. {F}rom the marked difference between the s{SMB}hydro and s{SMB}glacio values for the {M}er de {G}lace-{L}eschaux glacier, we suspect a significant role of groundwater fluxes in the hydrological balance. {T}his study underlines the importance of taking into account the groundwater transfers to represent and predict the hydro-glaciological behaviour of a catchment.}, keywords = {{G}lacier hydrology ; glacier mass balance ; mass-balance reconstruction ; mountain glaciers ; {FRANCE} ; {MONT} {BLANC} ; {ARGENTIERE} ; {MER} {DE} {GLACE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {G}laciology}, volume = {64}, numero = {243}, pages = {119--131}, ISSN = {0022-1430}, year = {2018}, DOI = {10.1017/jog.2018.7}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010072483}, }
