@article{fdi:010072481, title = {{F}uruncular myiasis for the {W}estern dermatologist : treatment in outpatient consultation}, author = {{B}laizot, {R}. and {V}anhecke, {C}. and {L}e {G}all, {P}hilippe and {D}uvignaud, {A}. and {R}eceveur, {M}. {C}. and {M}alvy, {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}ackground {F}uruncular myiasis is likely to be seen by {W}estern dermatologists because of the increasing number of international travelers but remains unfamiliar to most of them, who tend to refer these patients to hospitals. {D}ifferent treatments have been proposed, but many of them are not achievable in outpatient consultation. {M}ethods {W}e reported three typical cases of furuncular myiasis, according to each species involved, and proposed diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines for dermatologists in outpatient consultation. {R}esults {O}ne patient, complaining of an inflammatory nodule of the leg with a central punctum, was diagnosed with {D}ermatobia hominis infection, after a forest walk in {F}rench {G}uiana. {O}ne woman returned from {S}enegal with a nodule of the left buttock. {S}he had been infected by a {C}ordylobia anthropophaga larva after drying her underwear under a mango tree. {O}ne woman living in {C}ameroon presented with scalp nodules, pain, fatigue, and facial edema. {S}he had been infected by more than 40 larvae of {C}ordylobia rodhaini after drying her sheets under a mango tree. {M}anual extraction ensured complete healing in the three patients. {W}e used neither doppler ultrasound nor occlusive dressing. {D}iagnosis was immediately made thanks to the typical clinical stories. {C}onclusions {T}he diagnosis of furuncular myiasis requires only clinical skills and basic knowledge of life cycles. {T}he treatment varies slightly depending on the species involved but is achievable in outpatient consultation and does not require occlusive dressing.}, keywords = {{GUYANE} {FRANCAISE} ; {SENEGAL} ; {CAMEROUN}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {D}ermatology}, volume = {57}, numero = {2}, pages = {227--230}, ISSN = {0011-9059}, year = {2018}, DOI = {10.1111/ijd.13815}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010072481}, }
