@article{fdi:010072355, title = {{T}race metals partitioning between particulate and dissolved phases along a tropical mangrove estuary ({C}an {G}io, {V}ietnam)}, author = {{T}hanh-{N}ho, {N}. and {S}trady, {E}milie and {N}hu-{T}rang, {T}. {T}. and {D}avid, {F}. and {M}archand, {C}yril}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{M}angroves can be considered as biogeochemical reactors along (sub)tropical coastlines, acting both as sinks or sources for trace metals depending on environmental factors, {I}n this study, we characterized the role of a mangrove estuary, developing downstream a densely populated megacity ({H}o {C}hi {M}inh {C}ity, {V}ietnam), on the fate and partitioning of trace metals. {S}urface water and suspended particulate matter were collected at four sites along the estuarine salinity gradient during 24 h cycling in dry and rainy seasons. {S}alinity, p{H}, {DO}, {TSS}, {POC}, {DOC}, dissolved and particulate {F}e, {M}n, {C}r, {A}s, {C}u, {N}i, {C}o and {P}b were measured. {TSS} was the main trace metals carrier during their transit in the estuary. {H}owever, {TSS} variations did not explain the whole variability of metals distribution. {M}n, {C}r and {A}s were highly reactive metals while the other metals ({F}e, {N}i, {C}u, {C}o and {P}b) presented stable log {K}-{D} values along the estuary. {O}rganic matter dynamic appeared to play a key role in metals fractioning. {I}ts decomposition during water transit in the estuary induced metal desorption, especially for {C}r and {A}s. {C}onversely, dissolved {M}n concentrations decreased along the estuary, which was suggested to result from {M}n oxidative precipitation onto solid phase due to oxidation and p{H} changes. {E}xtra sources as pore-water release, runoff from adjacent soils, or aquaculture effluents were suggested to be involved in trace metal dynamic in this estuary. {I}n addition, the monsoon increased metal loads, notably dissolved and particulate {F}e, {C}r, {N}i and {P}b.}, keywords = {{B}iogeochemical processes ; {S}alinity gradient ; {M}onsoon effect ; {N}on-conservative behavior ; {V}ietnam ; {VIET} {NAM}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{C}hemosphere}, volume = {196}, numero = {}, pages = {311--322}, ISSN = {0045-6535}, year = {2018}, DOI = {10.1016/j.chemosphere.2017.12.189}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010072355}, }
