@inproceedings{fdi:010072139, title = {{E}ffects of the {B}amboung {M}arine {P}rotected {A}rea ({S}aloum, {S}enegal) on fish communities : an approach based on the bio-ecological indicators analysis [r{\'e}sum{\'e}]}, author = {{N}gom, {S}.{F}. and {S}adio, {O}. and {T}hiaw, {M}. and {K}antoussan, {J}. and {F}aye, {S}. and {N}dour, {I}. and {S}ow, {B}.{A}. and {B}rehmer, {P}atrice}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{M}arine {P}rotected {A}reas ({MPA}s), initially set up to protect critical habitats and improve biodiversity, are increasingly seen as a tool for the spatial management of fisheries. {H}owever, {MPA} managers rarely have a scientific assessment of the effectiveness {MPA}s from a fishery perspective. {T}hus this study analyzes the bio-ecological effects of {B}amboung {MPA} by comparing two nearby tropical estuaries: {B}olong de {B}amboung (closed to fishing) and {B}olong de {S}angako (fished). {F}or this purpose, usual ecological indicators have been estimated: abundance, biomass, specific richness and {S}hannon index. {T}hese indicators were calculated from experimental fishery data (2008-2016) in both bolongs using the same purse seine sampling protocol. {T}he preliminary results showed the presence of 69 species in the {MPA}, compared to 61 species in the {S}ongako bolong. {F}or {B}amboung {MPA}, the mean abundance is 25 individuals for a biomass of 72 kg/ha, while for the {S}angako bolong, the average abundance is 36 individuals for a biomass of 39 kg/ha. {T}he {S}hannon index is equal to 1.8 in the {AMP} and 1.7 in the bolong of {S}angako. {T}hese indices are close to their maximum values, indicating a more or less equal distribution of individuals between different species. {H}owever, the higher biomass in the {MPA} compared to the exploited site indicates the presence of large individuals in the {B}amboung {MPA}.}, keywords = {{SENEGAL} ; {ATLANTIQUE}}, numero = {}, pages = {110}, booktitle = {{I}nternational conference {ICAWA} 2016 : extended book of abstract : the {AWA} project : ecosystem approach to the management of fisheries and the marine environment in {W}est {A}frican waters}, year = {2017}, ISBN = {978-2-9553602-0-5}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010072139}, }
