@article{fdi:010071990, title = {{C}hronology of {C}hilean {F}rontal {C}ordillera building from geochronological, stratigraphic and geomorphological data insights from {M}iocene intramontane-basin deposits}, author = {{R}ossel, {K}. and {A}guilar, {G}. and {S}alazar, {E}. and {M}artinod, {J}. and {C}arretier, {S}{\'e}bastien and {P}into, {L}. and {C}abre, {A}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he {C}hilean {F}rontal {C}ordillera, near 28 degrees 45{S}, provides a remarkable example to explore the evolution of the {C}entral {A}ndes; this area provides conspicuous pediment surfaces and continental deposits, which allowed us to analyse the timing and propagation of deformation which controlled the {A}ndes building during the {C}enozoic using structural, geomorphological, sedimentological, stratigraphic and geochronological data. {T}he study area is characterized by outcrops of the {C}erro del {B}urro {G}ravels, a continental deposit which is surrounded by four morphostructural mountain systems. {B}ased on a 46{M}a tuff affected by a syncline, which is sealed by a 44{M}a tuff, we recognized an {E}ocene fault activity that contributed to the uplift of the western and northern systems, which have remained inactive during the last 44{M}a. {T}he deformed lithologies during the last pulse of activity of the western fault and the youngest lithology carved by pediment processes (21{M}a) indicate a pediment surface developed during the {L}ate {E}ocene and {O}ligocene. {T}his pediment extended below the {C}erro del {B}urro {G}ravels associated to a base level which drained to the east. {W}e also recognized {M}iocene fault activity that played a main role in the uplift of the eastern and southern systems. {G}eochronological, stratigraphic and geomorphological data suggest a first pulse of fault activity between 19 and 13{M}a, which interrupted the pedimentation processes, developed an intramontane depocenter, and forced the accumulation of the {L}aguna {G}rande {S}uccession in an alluvial-braided fluvial environment. {A}fter 13{M}a, an erosive event evidenced by the incision of valleys, resulted after the change in the extension and configuration of the hydric network.}, keywords = {{CHILI} ; {ANDES}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{B}asin {R}esearch}, volume = {30}, numero = {{S}1}, pages = {289--310}, ISSN = {0950-091{X}}, year = {2018}, DOI = {10.1111/bre.12221}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010071990}, }
