@article{fdi:010071909, title = {{S}earch for high-energy neutrinos from binary neutron star merger {GW}170817 with {ANTARES}, {I}ce{C}ube, and the {P}ierre {A}uger {O}bservatory}, author = {{ANTARES} {C}ollaboration, and {I}ce{C}ube {C}ollaboration, and {P}ierre {A}uger {C}ollaboration, and {LIGO} {S}cientific {C}ollaboration, and {V}irgo {C}ollaboration, and {H}ello, {Y}ann}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he {A}dvanced {LIGO} and {A}dvanced {V}irgo observatories recently discovered gravitational waves from a binary neutron star inspiral. {A} short gamma-ray burst ({GRB}) that followed the merger of this binary was also recorded by the {F}ermi {G}amma-ray {B}urst {M}onitor ({F}ermi-{GBM}), and the {A}nti-{C}oincidence {S}hield for the {S}pectrometer for the {I}nternational {G}amma-{R}ay {A}strophysics {L}aboratory ({INTEGRAL}), indicating particle acceleration by the source. {T}he precise location of the event was determined by optical detections of emission following the merger. {W}e searched for high-energy neutrinos from the merger in the {G}e{V}-{E}e{V} energy range using the {ANTARES}, {I}ce{C}ube, and {P}ierre {A}uger {O}bservatories. {N}o neutrinos directionally coincident with the source were detected within +/- 500 s around the merger time. {A}dditionally, no {M}e{V} neutrino burst signal was detected coincident with the merger. {W}e further carried out an extended search in the direction of the source for high-energy neutrinos within the 14 day period following the merger, but found no evidence of emission. {W}e used these results to probe dissipation mechanisms in relativistic outflows driven by the binary neutron star merger. {T}he non-detection is consistent with model predictions of short {GRB}s observed at a large off-axis angle.}, keywords = {gamma-ray burst: general ; gravitational waves ; neutrinos}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{A}strophysical {J}ournal {L}etters}, volume = {850}, numero = {2}, pages = {{L}35 [18 p.]}, ISSN = {2041-8205}, year = {2017}, DOI = {10.3847/2041-8213/aa9aed}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010071909}, }
