@article{fdi:010071420, title = {{P}hlebotomus ({P}araphlebotomus) chabaudi and {P}hlebotomus riouxi : closely related species or synonyms ?}, author = {{L}ehrter, {V}. and {B}anuls, {A}nne-{L}aure and {L}eger, {N}. and {R}ioux, {J}. {A}. and {D}epaquit, {J}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{P}hlebotomus riouxi {D}epaquit, {K}illick-{K}endrick & {L}eger 1998 was described as a species closely related to {P}hlebotomus chabaudi {C}roset, {A}bonnenc & {R}ioux 1970, differing mainly by the size and number of setae of the coxite basal lobe. {M}olecular studies carried out on several populations from {A}lgeria and {T}unisia and based on mitochondrial genes cytochrome b ({C}ytb) and cytochrome oxidase {I} ({COI}) supported the typological validity of these two species. {R}ecently, specimens from a single population in southern {T}unisia were morphologically identified as {P}h. riouxi, {P}h. chabaudi and intermediates, but were clustered in the same clade according to their {C}ytb and nuclear gene elongation factor-1 alpha ({EF}-1 alpha) sequences. {T}hese species were thus synonymized. {T}o further explore this synonymy, we carried out a molecular study on specimens from {A}lgeria and {T}unisia using the same molecular markers and a part of 28{S} r{DNA}. {W}e did not find any morphologically intermediate specimens in our sampling. {W}ehighlighted differences between the genetic divergence rates within and between the two species for the three markers and we identified new haplotypes. {T}he sequence analysis did not reveal any signature of introgression in allopatric nor in sympatric populations such as in the {G}homrassen population. {P}hylogenetic analyses based on our specimens revealed that the two main clades are {P}h. chabaudi and {P}h. riouxi, in agreement with the morphological identification. {T}hese results support the validity of {P}h. riouxi and {P}h. chabaudi as typological species.}, keywords = {{P}hlebotomus chabaudi ; {P}hlebotomus riouxi ; mitochondrial ; nuclear and ; ribosomal markers ; phylogenetic ; {N}orth {A}frica ; {ALGERIE} ; {TUNISIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}arasite}, volume = {24}, numero = {}, pages = {art. 47 [15 p. ]}, ISSN = {1252-607{X}}, year = {2017}, DOI = {10.1051/parasite/2017050}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010071420}, }
