@article{fdi:010071015, title = {{V}olcanic gas emissions and degassing dynamics at {U}binas and {S}abancaya volcanoes : implications for the volatile budget of the central volcanic zone}, author = {{M}oussallam, {Y}. and {T}amburello, {G}. and {P}eters, {N}. and {A}paza, {F}. and {S}chipper, {C}. {I}. and {C}urtis, {A}. and {A}iuppa, {A}. and {M}asias, {P}. and {B}oichu, {M}. and {B}auduin, {S}. and {B}arnie, {T}. and {B}ani, {P}hilipson and {G}iudice, {G}. and {M}oussallam, {M}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{E}mission of volcanic gas is thought to be the dominant process by which volatiles transit from the deep earth to the atmosphere. {V}olcanic gas emissions, remain poorly constrained, and volcanoes of {P}eru are entirely absent from the current global dataset. {I}n {P}eru, {S}abancaya and {U}binas volcanoes are by far the largest sources of volcanic gas. {H}ere, we report the first measurements of the compositions and fluxes of volcanic gases emitted from these volcanoes. {T}he measurements were acquired in {N}ovember 2015. {W}e determined an average {SO}2 flux of 15.3 +/- 23 kg s(-1) (1325-ton day(-1)) at {S}abancaya and of 11.4 +/- 3.9 kg s(-1) (988-ton day(-1)) at {U}binas using scanning ultraviolet spectroscopy and dual {UV} camera systems. {I}n-situ {M}ulti-{GAS} analyses yield molar proportions of {H}2{O}, {CO}2, {SO}2, {H}2{S} and {H}-2 gases of 73, 15, 10 1.15 and 0.15 mol% at {S}abancaya and of 96, 2.2, 1.2 and 0.05 mol% for {H}2{O}, {CO}2, {SO}2 and {H}2{S} at {U}binas. {T}ogether, these data imply cumulative fluxes for both volcanoes of 282, 30, 27,1.2 and 0.01 kg s(-1) of {H}2{O}, {CO}2, {SO}2, {H}2{S} and {H}-2 respectively. {S}abancaya and {U}binas volcanoes together contribute about 60% of the total {CO}2 emissions from the {C}entral {V}olcanic zone, and dominate by far the total revised volatile budget of the entire {C}entral {V}olcanic {Z}one of the {A}ndes.}, keywords = {{S}abancaya ; {U}binas ; {C}arbon dioxide ; {V}olcanic degassing ; {UV}-camera ; {DOAS} ; {M}ulti-{GAS} ; {IASI} ; {T}rail {B}y {F}ire ; {PEROU} ; {ANDES} ; {UBINAS} {VOLCAN} ; {SABANCAYA} {VOLCAN}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {V}olcanology and {G}eothermal {R}esearch}, volume = {343}, numero = {}, pages = {181--191}, ISSN = {0377-0273}, year = {2017}, DOI = {10.1016/j.jvolgeores.2017.06.027}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010071015}, }
