@article{fdi:010070249, title = {{G}eometrical trends within sequences of {P}leistocene marine terraces : selected examples from {C}alifornia, {P}eru, {C}hile and {N}ew-{Z}ealand}, author = {{R}egard, {V}. and {P}edoja, {K}. and {D}e la {T}orre, {I}. and {S}aillard, {M}arianne and {C}ortes-{A}randa, {J}. and {N}exer, {M}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{E}levations of the shoreline angles of marine terraces have long been used to infer {P}leistocene sea levels and/or uplift rates. {W}e attempt to use morphologic properties of sequences of marine terraces terrace width and slope in order to track if these constitute a pattern showing similar alternations at different sites and if this alternation is comparable to the signal from the sea level highstand succession duration and sea level for {M}iddle-{L}ate {P}leistocene. {T}o do so, we focus on sequences of marine terrace including more than 10 successive strandlines from {S}an {C}lemente {I}sland and {S}anta {C}ruz (both in {C}alifornia, {USA}). {W}e generated and analyzed 30 topographic profiles in order to confirm the occurrence or lack of each terrace, and to characterize their width and slope. {T}o complement the observation of tenuous trends, we used additional data from previous works at {P}oint {R}eyes ({C}alifornia, {USA}), {A}ltos de {T}alinay (central {C}hile), {S}an {J}uan de {M}arcona (central {P}eru) and {S}outh {T}aranaki ({N}orthern {I}sland, {N}ew {Z}ealand). {T}hese additional data strengthen the observations made at {S}an {C}lemente and {S}anta {C}ruz and prove that the most prominent terrace observed is usually carved during the {M}arine {I}sotopic {S}tage 5 ({MISS}). {M}oreover, some terraces appear better expressed than the others: those formed during {MIST}, {MIS}9 plus one of those formed during {MIS}15, {MIS}17 or {MIS}19 highstands. {T}he terraces formed during {MIS}11 are not preeminent, contrary to what expected from its long highstand duration.}, keywords = {{M}arine terrace ; sea level ; quaternary ; interglacial ; {S}an {C}lemente {I}sland ; {S}anta {C}ruz ; {P}oint {R}eyes ; {S}an {J}uan de {M}arcona ; {N}azca ; south {T}aranaki ; {A}ltos de {T}alinay ; {ETATS} {UNIS} ; {CALIFORNIE} ; {PEROU} ; {CHILI} ; {NOUVELLE} {ZELANDE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{Z}eitschrift {F}ur {G}eomorphologie}, volume = {61}, numero = {1}, pages = {53--73}, ISSN = {0372-8854}, year = {2017}, DOI = {10.1127/zfg/2017/0389}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010070249}, }
