@article{fdi:010070133, title = {{S}cientific opinion on the risks to plant health posed by {B}emisia tabaci species complex and iruses it transmits for {EU} territory}, author = {{B}aker, {R}. and {B}ragard, {C}. and {C}andresse, {T}. and {G}authier, {N}athalie and et al. and {EFSA} {P}anel on {P}lant {H}ealth}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he {P}anel on {P}lant {H}ealth conducted a pest risk assessment for {B}emisia tabaci and the viruses it transmits, including an evaluation of risk reduction options and an assessment of the effectiveness of the special requirements linked to {B}. tabaci and the viruses listed in {C}ouncil {D}irective 2000/29/{EC}. {B}. tabaci and a large number of viruses transmitted by this polyphagous insect occur in subtropical and tropical climates around the world. {F}ive entry pathways for {B}. tabaci and associated viruses were identified, with the plants for planting pathway being most significant and rated for entry of insects and viruses as likely and moderately likely, respectively. {T}he most invasive {B}. tabaci species and several of its associated viruses responsible for severe diseases in major {E}uropean food crops are established outdoors in coastal {M}editerranean regions. {B}ecause of similar climate requirements and host plant preferences, {B}. tabaci and associated viruses currently not present in {E}urope are likely to establish within the temperature limits set for {B}. tabaci. {T}rade between {E}uropean {M}ember {S}tates allows {B}. tabaci to reach greenhouses in northern {E}urope, including those in areas with protected zone status. {B}ecause of the cool climate, establishment and spread outdoors of {B}. tabaci is rated unlikely for northern {E}urope. {T}his situation is likely to continue even under a climatic scenario with an increase in temperature of +2 °{C}. {B}. tabaci -transmitted viruses cause severe diseases with major negative impact on crop production when risk reduction measures are not used. {R}isk reduction options will also apply to {B}. tabaci and viruses new to {E}urope. {R}isk reductions options are evaluated in terms of reducing {B}. tabaci populations, crop infestations, virus incidence and the impact of diseases.}, keywords = {{EUROPE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{EFSA} {J}ournal}, volume = {11}, numero = {4}, pages = {art. no 3162 [302 ]}, ISSN = {1831-4732}, year = {2013}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010070133}, }
