@article{fdi:010069486, title = {{T}he perforated stones of the {D}oi {P}ha {K}an burials ({N}orthern {T}hailand) : a {M}esolithic singularity ? = {L}es pierres perfor{\'e}es des s{\'e}pultures de {D}oi {P}ha {K}an ({N}ord de la {T}ha{\¨ie}lande) : une singularit{\'e} m{\'e}solithique ?}, author = {{I}mdirakphol, {S}. and {Z}azzo, {A}. and {A}uetrakulvit, {P}. and {T}iamtinkrit, {C}. and {P}ierret, {A}lain and {F}orestier, {H}. and {Z}eitoun, {V}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}; {FRE}}, abstract = {{T}hrought continental {S}outheast {A}sia, the {H}oabinhian techno-complex stands out in clear contrast with the universal chrono-cultural model essentially established on the basis of western prehistory. {F}ollowing this model, early authors considered perforated stones and associated lithic artefacts as markers of what was then believed to pertain to a {S}outheast {A}sian {M}esolithic. {H}owever, {S}outheast {A}sian {M}esolitithic has progressively been abandoned in favour of a ubiquitous {H}oabinhian spanning from 30,000 to 3000 {BP}. {H}ere, we present and discuss the discovery of perforated stones at the {D}oi {P}ha {K}an site in northern {T}hailand. {P}erforated stones have almost never been found in undisturbed stratigraphic conditions nor dated with any sufficient degree of certainty. {A}t {D}oi {P}ha {K}an site, such a kind of artefacts was found in burials intersecting sedimentary layers that could be ascertained as {H}oabinhian. {I}n contrast with similar perforated stones described in the literature, that found at {D}oi {P}ha {K}an are well-dated (13,000 {BP}), thus providing a time-reference for a putative {S}outheast {A}sian {M}esolithic. {W}e therefore advocate that such non-{H}oabinhian artefacts support the early authors' hypothesis of the existence of a {S}outheast {A}sian {M}esolithic. {F}inally, the funerary practices, the unusually high stature of individuals found at {D}oi {P}ha {K}an in conjunction with the particular lithic assemblages further contributes to raise the question of the co-occurrence of several cultures or populations at the {P}leistocene-{H}olocene interface in continental {S}outheast {A}sia.}, keywords = {{D}ating ; {S}outheast {A}sia ; {H}oabinhian ; {M}esolithic ; {ASIE} {DU} {SUD} {EST} ; {THAILANDE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{C}omptes {R}endus {P}alevol}, volume = {16}, numero = {3}, pages = {351--361}, ISSN = {1631-0683}, year = {2017}, DOI = {10.1016/j.crpv.2016.12.0031631}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010069486}, }
