@article{fdi:010069417, title = {{T}he chimeric nature of the genomes of marine magnetotactic coccoid-ovoid bacteria defines a novel group of {P}roteobacteria}, author = {{J}i, {B}. {Y}. and {Z}hang, {S}. {D}. and {Z}hang, {W}. {J}. and {R}ouy, {Z}. and {A}lberto, {F}. and {S}antini, {C}. {L}. and {M}angenot, {S}. and {G}agnot, {S}. and {P}hilippe, {N}. and {P}radel, {N}athalie and {Z}hang, {L}. {C}. and {T}empel, {S}. and {L}i, {Y}. and {M}edigue, {C}. and {H}enrissat, {B}. and {C}outinho, {P}. {M}. and {B}arbe, {V}. and {T}alla, {E}. and {W}u, {L}. {F}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{M}agnetotactic bacteria ({MTB}) are a group of phylogenetically and physiologically diverse {G}ram-negative bacteria that synthesize intracellular magnetic crystals named magnetosomes. {MTB} are affiliated with three classes of {P}roteobacteria phylum, {N}itrospirae phylum, {O}mnitrophica phylum and probably with the candidate phylum {L}atescibacteria. {T}he evolutionary origin and physiological diversity of {MTB} compared with other bacterial taxonomic groups remain to be illustrated. {H}ere, we analysed the genome of the marine magneto-ovoid strain {MO}-1 and found that it is closely related to {M}agnetococcus marinus {MC}-1. {D}etailed analyses of the ribosomal proteins and whole proteomes of 390 genomes reveal that, among the {P}roteobacteria analysed, only {MO}-1 and {MC}-1 have coding sequences ({CDS}s) with a similarly high proportion of origins from {A}lphaproteobacteria, {B}etaproteobacteria, {D}eltaproteobacteria and {G}ammaproteobacteria. {I}nterestingly, a comparative metabolic network analysis with anoxic network enzymes from sequenced {MTB} and non-{MTB} successfully allows the eventual prediction of an organism with a metabolic profile compatible for magnetosome production. {A}ltogether, our genomic analysis reveals multiple origins of {MO}-1 and {M}. marinus {MC}-1 genomes and suggests a metabolism-restriction model for explaining whether a bacterium could become an {MTB} upon acquisition of magnetosome encoding genes.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}nvironmental {M}icrobiology}, volume = {19}, numero = {3}, pages = {1103--1119}, ISSN = {1462-2912}, year = {2017}, DOI = {10.1111/1462-2920.13637}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010069417}, }
