@article{fdi:010069302, title = {{I}nitial conditions during {T}echnosol implementation shape earthworms and ants diversity}, author = {{V}ergnes, {A}. and {B}louin, {M}. and {M}uratet, {A}. and {L}erch, {T}. {Z}. and {M}endez-{M}illan, {M}ercedes and {R}ouelle-{C}astrec, {M}. and {D}ubs, {F}lorence}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}oils in urban parks are mainly manmade and called {T}echnosols. {T}hese {T}echnosols are made of backfill with or without a topsoil addition, which may affect both the physicochemical properties of these soils and the success of soil fauna colonization. {T}he effects of these initial soil management conditions on colonization dynamics of {T}echnosols have not been evaluated yet. {T}o fill this gap, we sampled earthworms and ants in 20 {T}echnosols covered by lawn and located in urban parks around {P}aris ({F}rance). {W}e selected {T}echnosols constructed with or without an initial addition of topsoil and distributed along an age gradient since construction ranging from 2 to 64 years. {S}urrounding greening index around {T}echnosols, management practices and physicochemical soil properties have also been recorded. {S}urprisingly, no significant differences were observed in the physicochemical properties of {T}echnosols regardless of the absence/presence of topsoil. {C}ommunities were composed of few ubiquitous species, which could explain the lack of species richness response to any of our variables. {E}arthworm and ant abundances increased significantly along the age gradient only in {T}echnosols with initial addition of topsoil. {I}n {T}echnosols, initial conditions apparently determine in part soil macrofauna. {T}hanks to a close collaboration between scientist and managers, we highlighted that managers should add topsoil during the creation of {T}echnosols in order to sustain abundance of ecosystem engineers and potentially the ecosystem services they provide.}, keywords = {{U}rban soils ; {T}echnosols ; {I}nitial conditions ; {A}ge gradient ; {S}oil ; {M}anagement ; {S}oil macrofauna ; {FRANCE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{L}andscape and {U}rban {P}lanning}, volume = {159}, numero = {}, pages = {32--41}, ISSN = {0169-2046}, year = {2017}, DOI = {10.1016/j.landurbplan.2016.10.002}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010069302}, }
