@article{fdi:010068863, title = {{A}nopheles fauna of coastal {C}ayenne, {F}rench {G}uiana: modelling and mapping of species presence using remotely sensed land cover data}, author = {{A}dde, {A}. and {D}usfour, {I}. and {R}oux, {E}mmanuel and {G}irod, {R}. and {B}riolant, {S}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{L}ittle is known about the {A}nopheles species of the coastal areas of {F}rench {G}uiana, or their spatiotemporal distribution or environmental determinants. {T}he present study aimed to (1) document the distribution of {A}nopheles fauna in the coastal area around {C}ayenne, and (2) investigate the use of remotely sensed land cover data as proxies of {A}nopheles presence. {T}o characterise the {A}nopheles fauna, we combined the findings of two entomological surveys that were conducted during the period 2007-2009 and in 2014 at 37 sites. {S}atellite imagery data were processed to extract land cover variables potentially related to {A}nopheles ecology. {B}ased on these data, a methodology was formed to estimate a statistical predictive model of the spatial-seasonal variations in the presence of {A}nopheles in the {C}ayenne region. {T}wo {A}nopheles species, known as main malaria vectors in {S}outh {A}merica, were identified, including the more dominant {A}n. aquasalis near town and rural sites, and {A}n. darlingi only found in inland sites. {F}urthermore, a cross-validated model of {A}n. aquasalis presence that integrated marsh and forest surface area was extrapolated to generate predictive maps. {T}he present study supports the use of satellite imagery by health authorities for the surveillance of malaria vectors and planning of control strategies.}, keywords = {{A}nopheles ; {F}rench {G}uiana ; malaria ; remote sensing technology ; {GUYANE} {FRANCAISE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{M}emorias do {I}nstituto {O}swaldo {C}ruz}, volume = {111}, numero = {12}, pages = {750--756}, ISSN = {0074-0276}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1590/0074-02760160272}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010068863}, }
