@article{fdi:010068829, title = {{B}alneicella halophila gen. nov., sp. nov., an anaerobic bacterium, isolated from a thermal spring and description of {B}alneicellaceae fam. nov.}, author = {{F}adhlaoui, {K}. and {B}en {H}ania, {W}ajdi and {P}ostec, {A}. and {H}amdi, {M}. and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} mesophilic anaerobic bacterium, designated {KHALHB}d91({T}) was isolated from the moderately hot spring of {H}ammam {B}iadha, {T}unisia. {T}he strain was {G}ram-staining-negative, non-sporulating, non-motile and rod-shaped, appearing singly (0.5-2.0 x 0.5-1 mu m). {I}t grew anaerobically at temperatures between 20 and 50 degrees {C} (optimum 37 degrees {C}) and at p{H} values between 5.5 and 7.8 (optimum 7.0). {I}t required {N}a{C}l for growth, with growth observed at up 8.5% and an optimum at 2.5 %. {KHALHB}d91({T}) used glucose, galactose, maltose, pyruvate, lactate, fumarate and yeast extract as electron donors. {T}he end-products from glucose fermentation were acetate, propionate, succinate and {CO}2. {N}itrate, nitrite, thiosulfate, elemental sulfur, sulfate and sulfite were not used as terminal electron acceptors. {T}he predominant cellular fatty acids were anteiso-{C}-15 : 0 and iso-{C}-15 : 0. {T}he respiratory quinone was {MK}-6. {T}he main polar lipids consisted of lipids, phospholipids, glycolipids, aminolipids, phosphoaminoglycolipids and phosphatidylethanolamine. {T}he {DNA} {G}+{C} content was 35.0 mol%. {P}hylogenetic analysis of the small-subunit ribosomal 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence indicated that {KHALHB}d91({T}) had {M}arinifilum fragile and {M}arinifilum flexuosum (phylum {B}acteroidetes, class {B}acteroidia, order {B}acteroidales) as its closest relatives (similarity of 86.7 and 87.8% respectively). {T}he phylogenetic and physiological data fro the present study strongly indicate that the isolate represents a novel genus and species of a novel family, {B}alneicella halophila gen. nov., sp. nov., in the family {B}alneicellaceaefam. nov. {T}he type strain is {KHALHB}d91({T}) (={DSM}28579({T}) ={JCM}19909({T})).}, keywords = {{TUNISIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {66}, numero = {11}, pages = {4692--4696}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1099/ijsem.0.001412}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010068829}, }
