@article{fdi:010068791, title = {{G}eochemical and magnetic evidence of change from winter to summer rainfall regimes at 9.2 cal ka {BP} in northwestern {M}exico}, author = {{O}rtega-{R}osas, {C}. {I}. and {V}idal-{S}olano, {J}. {R}. and {W}illiamson, {D}avid and {P}enalba, {M}. {C}. and {G}uiot, {J}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{W}e present a multiproxy record from magnetic susceptibility, loss on ignition and chemical analysis of a sediment core collected from "{C}ienega {L}as {T}aunas", a peatland in the northwest of the {S}ierra {M}adre {O}ccidental in {M}exico. {T}he oldest sediments were dated to 12,850 cal yr {BP}. {T}he relatively cool and wet {Y}ounger {D}ryas ({YD}) shows higher concentrations of {T}i{O}2 and {C}hemical {I}ndex of {A}lteration ({CIA}), suggesting higher runoff into the cienega. {T}he transition from the {YD} to the early {H}olocene is marked by a decrease in susceptibility, pointing to weakened erosional processes during a period of closed forest vegetation, suggesting a predominantly winter rainfall regime. {A} change in seasonality likely occurred after ca. 9200 cal yr {BP}, as shown by: 1) an increase in most major elements, suggesting increased dust fallout from distant sources, and 2) more pollen assemblages from temperate vegetation (pine-oak forest). {W}e related these changes to increased summer rains and monsoons in {NW} {M}exico. {A} possible hiatus or a very slow sedimentation period occurred during the middle {H}olocene at this site. {F}inally, high-frequency changes in sediment properties were especially observed in the {L}ate {H}olocene, suggesting contrasting sediment inputs controlled by an unstable water table and/or related to {ENSO}.}, keywords = {{NW} {M}exico ; {H}olocene ; {M}onsoon ; {M}agnetic susceptibility ; {G}eochemistry ; {P}ollen analysis ; {MEXIQUE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}alaeogeography {P}alaeoclimatology {P}alaeoecology}, volume = {465}, numero = {{A}}, pages = {64--78}, ISSN = {0031-0182}, year = {2017}, DOI = {10.1016/j.palaeo.2016.10.017}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010068791}, }
