@article{fdi:010068294, title = {{F}irst report of goniodomin {A} production by the dinoflagellate {A}lexandrium pseudogonyaulax developing in southern {M}editerranean ({B}izerte {L}agoon, {T}unisia)}, author = {{T}riki, {H}. {Z}. and {L}aabir, {M}ohamed and {M}oeller, {P}. and {C}homerat, {N}. and {D}aly-{Y}ahia, {O}. {K}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he dinoflagellate {A}lexandrium pseudogonyaulax is widely distributed around the world including the {M}editerranean waters. {T}he objectives of this study were to determine the morphology and phylogenic affiliation of {A}. pseudogonyaulax strain isolated from {B}izerte {L}agoon ({M}editerranean waters, {T}unisia) and investigate its toxicity. {M}olecular analyses confirmed the morphological identification of the isolated strain ({APBZ}12) as {A}. pseudogonyaulax. {M}oreover, it showed that it is 100% identical with strains of this species found in {N}ew {Z}ealand, {J}apan, {C}hina and {N}orth {S}ea ({N}orway and {D}enmark) suggesting that this species is cosmopolitan. {U}ntil now, no toxin studies have been conducted on fully characterized (morphologically and molecularly) {A}. pseudogonyaulax. {C}ellular toxin production was determined using high pressure liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry ({HPLC}/{MS}). {R}esults showed for the first time that {A}. pseudogonyaulax contains goniodomin {A} ({GDA}), a highly toxic. macrolide polyether previously shown to be produced by two other dinoflagellate species {A}lexandrium monilatum ({H}sia et al., 2006) and {A}lexandrium hiranoi (erroneously identified as {A}. pseudogonyaulax in {M}urakami et al., 1988) in {A}merican and {J}apanese waters, respectively. {T}his biologically active toxin has been associated over decades with fish mortality. {O}ur study showed that the cell extracts of {APBZ}12 showed an important bioactivity using {GH}4{C}1 rat pituitary cytotoxicity bioassay.}, keywords = {{A}lexandrium pseudogonyaulax ; {G}oniodomin {A} ; {M}editerranean sea ; {M}orphology ; {P}hylogeny ; {TUNISIE} ; {MEDITERRANEE} ; {BIZERTE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{T}oxicon}, volume = {111}, numero = {}, pages = {91--99}, ISSN = {0041-0101}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1016/j.toxicon.2015.12.018}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010068294}, }
