@article{fdi:010068281, title = {{C}rustal-scale block tilting during {A}ndean trench-parallel extension : structural and geo-thermochronological insights}, author = {{N}oury, {M}. and {B}ernet, {M}. and {S}childgen, {T}. {F}. and {S}imon-{L}abric, {T}. and {P}hilippon, {M}. and {S}emp{\'e}r{\'e}, {T}hierry}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{D}espite a long history of plate convergence at the western margin of the {S}outh {A}merican plate that has been ongoing since at least the {E}arly {P}aleozoic, the southern {P}eruvian fore-arc displays little to no evidence of shortening. {I}n the light of this observation, we assess the deformation history of the southern {P}eruvian fore-arc and its geodynamic implications. {T}o accomplish this, we present a new structural and geo-thermochronological data set (zircon {U}-{P}b, mica {A}r-40/{A}r-39, apatite and zircon fission-track and zircon ({U}-{T}h)/{H}e analyses) for samples collected along a 400km long transect parallel to the trench. {O}ur results show that the {M}esoproterozoic gneissic basement was mainly at temperatures 350 degrees {C} since the {N}eoproterozoic and was later intruded by {J}urassic volcanic arc plutons. {A}long the coast, a peculiar apatite fission-track age pattern, coupled with field observations and a synthesis of available geological maps, allows us to identify crustal-scale tilted blocks that span the coastal {P}eruvian fore-arc. {T}hese blocks, bounded by normal faults that are orthogonal to the trench, suggest post-60{M}a trench-parallel extension that potentially accommodated oroclinal bending in this region. {B}lock tilting is consistent with the observed and previously described switch in the location of sedimentary sources in the fore-arc basin. {O}ur data set allows us to estimate the cumulative slip on these faults to be less than 2km and questions the large amount of trench-parallel extension suggested to have accommodated this bending.}, keywords = {{C}entral {A}ndes ; {P}eruvian fore arc ; thermochronology ; trench-parallel ; extension ; oroclinal bending ; {PEROU} ; {ANDES} {CENTRE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{T}ectonics}, volume = {35}, numero = {9}, pages = {2052--2069}, ISSN = {0278-7407}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1002/2016tc004231}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010068281}, }
