@article{fdi:010068247, title = {{P}hylogenetic analysis of {A}ttalea ({A}recaceae) : insights into the historical biogeography of a recently diversified {N}eotropical plant group}, author = {{F}reitas, {C}. and {M}eerow, {A}. {W}. and {P}intaud, {J}ean-{C}hristophe and {H}enderson, {A}. and {N}oblick, {L}. and {C}osta, {F}. {R}. {C}. and {B}arbosa, {C}. {E}. and {B}arrington, {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{W}e present a dated phylogenetic tree for the {N}eotropical genus {A}ttalea ({A}recaceae). {W}e used six orthologues from the nuclear {WRKY} gene family across 98 accessions to address relationships among species and biogeographical hypotheses. {W}e found that the formerly recognized groups within {A}ttalea are not monophyletic and therefore there is no support for multiple genera as previously thought. {S}pecies of {A}ttalea-like palms from the {A}tlantic forest form a well-supported clade sister to the {A}ttalea species from {A}mazonia, the {A}ndean valleys and {M}esoamerica. {D}ates for the main divergence events suggest a relationship with the development of the dry forests that now span eastern {S}outh {A}merica and the now-lost {P}ebas {L}ake region in the western {A}mazon. {A}ttalea crassispatha possibly colonized {H}ispaniola by a long-distance dispersal event, not via the land bridge {G}reat {A}ntilles {A}vian {R}idge ({GAAR}), before the {P}anama channel closed. {T}he common ancestor of {A}ttalea appears to have been an {A}tlantic forest clade c. 30 {M}ya. {T}he early split between the {A}tlantic-forest clade and the two {A}mazonian-northern {A}ndean clades was probably the result of climatic changes that caused an increase in aridity in {S}outh {A}merica.}, keywords = {{B}ayesian inference ; molecular phylogeny ; neotropics ; palm phylogeny ; {S}outh {A}merica ; {BRESIL} ; {AMAZONIE} ; {ZONE} {ARIDE}}, booktitle = {{P}alms : emblems of tropical forests}, journal = {{B}otanical {J}ournal of the {L}innean {S}ociety}, volume = {182}, numero = {2 (no sp{\'e}cial)}, pages = {287--302}, ISSN = {0024-4074}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1111/boj.12466}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010068247}, }
