@article{fdi:010068234, title = {{A}ssociation of white clover ({T}rifolium repens {L}.) with rhizobia of sv. trifolii belonging to three genomic species in alkaline soils in {N}orth and {E}ast {C}hina}, author = {{Z}hang, {J}. {J}. and {J}ing, {X}. {Y}. and {L}ajudie, {P}hilippe de and {M}a, {C}. and {H}e, {P}. {X}. and {S}ingh, {R}. {P}. and {C}hen, {W}. {F}. and {W}ang, {E}. {T}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{R}hizobia associated with white clover ({T}rifolium repens) grown in alkaline soils of {C}hina have never been investigated. {T}his is the first survey to report of their genetic and biogeographical diversity. {N}odule bacteria were isolated from white clover grown in alkaline soils (p{H} 8.18-8.99) in {N}orth and {E}ast {C}hina and were characterized by multilocus sequence analysis ({MLSA}) of the housekeeping genes (atp{D}, rec{A}, and gln{II}), and phylogenies of 16{S} r{RNA} gene and symbiotic genes nod{C} and nif{H}. {T}he biogeographic distribution of rhizobial species was analyzed in relation to the soil factors. {A} total of 83 new strains could be affiliated to {R}hizobium that shared 100 % sequence similarity of 16{S} r{RNA} gene with {R}. leguminosarum, {R}. acidisoli, {R}. anhuiense, {R}. indigoferae, {R}. sophorae, and {R}. laguerreae. {T}hree genospecies were further distinguished based on the housekeeping gene analysis among these new strains: {R}. anhuiense, {R}. leguminosarum, and a hypothetical novel {R}hizobium genospecies. {H}ighly conserved symbiotic genes corresponding to those of symbiovar trifolii in {R}. leguminosarum were observed among all the new strains. {U}nique rhizobial communities associated with white clover were detected in the tested alkaline soils, and soil characteristics such as p{H} and nutrient levels were estimated as the determinant factors. {W}hite clover established symbiosis with three {R}hizobium genospecies harboring similar symbiotic genes in alkaline soils in {C}hina. {B}iogeographic pattern exists in clover rhizobia that was determined by the soil p{H} and nutrient levels.}, keywords = {{W}hite clover ; {R}hizobia ; {D}iversity ; {S}ymbiotic genes ; {A}lkaline soils ; {CHINE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}lant and {S}oil}, volume = {407}, numero = {1-2}, pages = {417--427}, ISSN = {0032-079{X}}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1007/s11104-016-2899-9}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010068234}, }
