@article{fdi:010068150, title = {{E}ruptive parameters and dynamics of the {A}pril 2015 sub-{P}linian eruptions of {C}albuco volcano (southern {C}hile)}, author = {{C}astruccio, {A}. and {C}lavero, {J}. and {S}egura, {A}. and {S}amaniego, {P}ablo and {R}oche, {O}livier and {L}e {P}ennec, {J}ean-{L}uc and {D}roguett, {B}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{W}e conducted geological and petrological analyses of the tephra fallout and pyroclastic density current ({PDC}) products of the 22-23 {A}pril 2015 {C}albuco eruptions. {T}he eruptive cycle consisted of two sub-{P}linian phases that generated > 15 km height columns and {PDC}s that travelled up to 6 km from the vent. {T}he erupted volume is estimated at 0.38 km(3) (non-{DRE}), with approximately 90% corresponding to tephra fall deposits and the other 10% to {PDC} deposits. {T}he erupted products are basaltic-andesite, 54-55 wt.% {S}i{O}2, with minor amounts of andesite (58 wt.% {S}i{O}2). {D}espite the uniform composition of the products, there are at least four types of textures in juvenile clasts, with different degrees of vesicularity and types and content of crystals. {W}e propose that the eruption triggering mechanism was either exsolution of volatiles due to crystallization, or a small intrusion into the base of the magma chamber, without significant magma mixing or with a magma compositionally similar to that of the residing magma. {I}n either case the triggering mechanism generated convection and sufficient overpressure to promote the first eruptive phase. {T}he start of the eruption decompressed the chamber, promoting intense vesiculation of the remaining magma and an increase in eruption rate towards the end of the eruption.}, keywords = {{C}albuco volcano ; {S}outhern {A}ndes ; {S}ub-{P}linian eruption ; {T}riggering mechanisms ; {CHILI} ; {ANDES} ; {CALBUCO} {VOLCAN}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{B}ulletin of {V}olcanology}, volume = {78}, numero = {9}, pages = {art. 62 [19 p.]}, ISSN = {0258-8900}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1007/s00445-016-1058-8}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010068150}, }
