@article{fdi:010068143, title = {{C}ollaboration dynamics of {M}exican research in {C}hemistry and its relationship with communication patterns}, author = {{R}ussell, {J}. {M}. and {H}ernandez-{G}arcia, {Y}. and {K}leiche {D}ray, {M}ina}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}his paper looks at the patterns of collaborative scientific output during the first 10 years of the {N}ew {M}illennium (2000-2009) based on {W}eb of {S}cience data for those {M}exican institutions and departments known to be researching in {C}hemistry. {O}f the 17,109 papers retrieved 76.9 % were in collaboration, with 34.3 % of these involving foreign institutions. {W}e analysed the collaboration links with foreign partners using visualizations and their dynamics by determining the combination and frequency of individual occurrences and by establishing the sequence found in our country co-authorship chains. {B}ilateral partnerships were the most common predominantly with the {USA} and to the lesser extent with {S}pain. {T}hese two countries are also the protagonists of the most frequent trilateral co-authorships. {C}ollaboration with other {L}atin {A}merican countries is infrequent and mainly bilateral. {T}he number of partner countries increased from 75 to 92 from the first to the second quinquennium. {W}ith respect to the countries emerging in the second period we find a greater occurrence and repetition of bilateral partnerships and a notable presence of {M}exico's main industrialised partners in the corresponding chains. {S}imilar numbers of journals were found for national and international collaborative papers with important differences but several coincidences. {T}he subject range of journals was diverse in both cases, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of the field but with an important presence of titles specializing in subfields of {C}hemistry. {O}ur findings provide new insight into the way countries interact and communicate when co-authoring with developing countries.}, keywords = {{C}hemistry ; {M}exico ; {J}ournals ; {S}cientific production ; {C}ollaboration in science ; {MEXIQUE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}cientometrics}, volume = {109}, numero = {1}, pages = {283--316}, ISSN = {0138-9130}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1007/s11192-016-2069-0}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010068143}, }
