@article{fdi:010067784, title = {{I}nfluence of salt stress on inoculated {C}asuarina glauca seedlings}, author = {{M}ansour, {S}. {R}. and {A}bdel-lateif, {K}. and {B}ogusz, {D}idier and {F}ranche, {C}laudine}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}alinity is a serious threat to agriculture in arid and semi-arid regions including {E}gypt. {T}here is currently a need to select highly salt-tolerant plants to improve recycling of agricultural drainage waters. {D}ue to the importance of {C}asuarina in soil reclamation and rehabilitation, our study was carried out to evaluate the survival and growth of inoculated {C}asuarina glauca in hydroponic {N}-free medium supplemented with different {N}a{C}l concentrations (50, 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 m{M}). {S}alt tolerant {F}rankia strains {C}c{I}156 and {C}g{IM}4, isolated from root nodules of {C}asuarina trees grown in loamy sand soils in {E}gypt, were used for seedling inoculation. {O}ur results showed that inoculated {C}asuarina seedlings were able to withstand up to 200 m{M} {N}a{C}l. {A}t higher {N}a{C}l concentrations (300 to 500 m{M}), the seedling died gradually three days after exposure to salt stress. {H}owever, at lower {N}a{C}l (50 m{M}) concentration, inoculated {C}. glauca seedlings showed a higher growth rate and higher percentages of nodulation. {N}itrogenase activity and the total nitrogen content of nodulated seedlings were also influenced by elevated {N}a{C}l concentrations and recorded a reduction at high concentration (200 m{M}). {S}alt stress had a strong effect on biosynthesis of osmoprotectants molecules like {L}-{P}roline and carbohydrates, which strongly correlated (r = 0.98 and 0.87, respectively) with increasing salt concentrations.}, keywords = {{C}asuarina glauca ; {F}rankia endosymbiont ; {S}alinity ; {S}oil rehabilitation}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}ymbiosis}, volume = {70}, numero = {1}, pages = {129--138}, ISSN = {0334-5114}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1007/s13199-016-0425-8}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010067784}, }
