@article{fdi:010067638, title = {{T}he {T}asiast deposit, {M}auritania}, author = {{H}eron, {K}. and {J}essell, {M}ark and {B}enn, {K}. and {H}arris, {E}. and {C}rowley, {Q}. {G}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he {T}asiast gold deposits are hosted within {M}esoarchean rocks of the {A}oueouat greenstone belt, {M}auritania. {T}he {T}asiast {M}ine consists of two deposits hosted within distinctly different rock types, both situated within the hanging wall of the west-vergent {T}asiast thrust. {T}he {P}iment deposits are hosted within metasedimentary rocks including metaturbidites and banded iron formation where the main mineral association consists of magnetite-quartz-pyrrhotite +/- actinolite +/- garnet +/- biotite. {G}old is associated with silica flooding and sulphide replacement of magnetite in the turbidites and in the banded iron formation units. {T}he {W}est {B}ranch deposit is hosted within meta-igneous rocks, mainly diorites and quartz diorites that lie stratigraphically below host rocks of the {P}iment deposits. {M}ost of the gold mineralisation at {W}est {B}ranch is hosted by quartz-carbonate veins within the sheared and hydrothermally altered meta-diorites that constitute the {G}reenschist {Z}one. {A}t {T}asiast, gold mineralisation has been defined over a strike length > 10 km and to vertical depths of 740 m. {A}ll of the significant mineralised bodies defined to date dip moderately to steeply (45 degrees to 70 degrees) to the east and have a south-southeasterly plunge. {G}old deposits on the {T}asiast trend are associated with second order shear zones that are splays cutting the hanging wall block of the {T}asiast thrust. {A}n age of 2839 +/- 36 {M}a obtained from the hydrothermal overgrowth on zircons from a quartz vein is interpreted to represent the age of mineralisation.}, keywords = {{T}asiast ; {G}old ; {M}auritania ; {BIF} ; {Z}ircon geochronology ; {MAURITANIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{O}re {G}eology {R}eviews}, volume = {78}, numero = {}, pages = {564--572}, ISSN = {0169-1368}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1016/j.oregeorev.2015.08.020}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010067638}, }
