@article{fdi:010067560, title = {{S}hift of small scale fishing impacts on fish trophic jevels in lake {I}ro revealed by species-based indicators}, author = {{T}hiaw, {M}. and {T}ine, {M}. and {D}iadhiou, {H}.{D}. and {M}agoma, {O}. and {B}rehmer, {P}atrice}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} fisheries management plan was required in {C}entral {A}frica, which integrated a reduced regional hydrographical network and limited amounts of data in the overall regime. {T}he current data and knowledge on fish populations and fisheries impacts are very poor in this region, particularly in {C}had. {T}herefore, any new knowledge, especially on the structure of the ichthyological stands can be considered as valuable. {I}nformation on the status of {L}ake {I}ro fisheries resources was thus established by this study, which can serve as a model fisheries management regime in {C}entral {A}frica. {W}e performed assessment of fish resources in {L}ake {I}ro, {C}had, achieved by a characterization of the exploited ichthyofauna, and the location of nursery and fishing areas. {R}esults indicated that the overall size range of fish species showed negative effects of fishing pressure on size structure of the fish resources. {F}ishing has increasingly exerted pressure on fish species and affected the primary consumer species. {W}e hypothesized at {L}ake {I}ro fish catches were below optimal fish production levels, essentially due to excessive localized fishing efforts, and selective fishing techniques by fisherman. {S}uch reports call for the development of an integrated plan for sustainable management of {L}ake {I}ro fisheries resources. {S}ustainable and equitable exploitation of {L}ake {I}ro resources can be promoted by implementation of the following recommendation: a protected area at the lake inlet to limit excessive juvenile fish catches, which disturbs the aquatic food chain and prevents juvenile fish supply and growth in {L}ake {I}ro.}, keywords = {{AFRIQUE} {CENTRALE} ; {TCHAD}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{F}isheries and {A}quaculture {J}ournal}, volume = {7}, numero = {2}, pages = {art. 1000167 [en ligne]}, ISSN = {2150-3508}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.4172/2150-3508.1000167}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010067560}, }
