@article{fdi:010066852, title = {{A}n updated checklist of mosquito species ({D}iptera : {C}ulicidae) from {M}adagascar}, author = {{T}antely, {M}. {L}. and {L}e {G}off, {G}ilbert and {B}oyer, {S}{\'e}bastien and {F}ontenille, {D}idier}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A}n updated checklist of 235 mosquito species from {M}adagascar is presented. {T}he number of species has increased considerably compared to previous checklists, particularly the last published in 2003 (178 species). {T}his annotated checklist provides concise information on endemism, taxonomic position, developmental stages, larval habitats, distribution, behavior, and vector-borne diseases potentially transmitted. {T}he 235 species belong to 14 genera: {A}edeomyia (3 species), {A}edes (35 species), {A}nopheles (26 species), {C}oquillettidia (3 species), {C}ulex (at least 50 species), {E}retmapodites (4 species), {F}icalbia (2 species), {H}odgesia (at least one species), {L}utzia (one species), {M}ansonia (2 species), {M}imomyia (22 species), {O}rthopodomyia (8 species), {T}oxorhynchites (6 species), and {U}ranotaenia (73 species). {D}ue to non-deciphered species complexes, several species remain undescribed. {T}he main remarkable characteristic of {M}alagasy mosquito fauna is the high biodiversity with 138 endemic species (59%). {P}resence and abundance of species, and their association, in a given location could be a bio-indicator of environmental particularities such as urban, rural, forested, deforested, and mountainous habitats. {F}inally, taking into account that {M}alagasy culicidian fauna includes 64 species (27%) with a known medical or veterinary interest in the world, knowledge of their biology and host preference summarized in this paper improves understanding of their involvement in pathogen transmission in {M}adagascar.}, keywords = {{M}osquitoes ; {T}axonomy ; {B}iology ; {V}ectors ; {M}adagascar ; {MADAGASCAR}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}arasite}, volume = {23}, numero = {}, pages = {art. 20 [42 p.]}, ISSN = {1252-607{X}}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1051/parasite/2016018}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010066852}, }
