@article{fdi:010066829, title = {{P}-delays from floating seismometers ({MERMAID}), {P}art {I} : {D}ata processing}, author = {{J}oubert, {C}. and {N}olet, {G}. and {B}onnieux, {S}. and {D}eschamps, {A}. and {D}essa, {J}. {X}. and {H}ello, {Y}ann}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{W}e present methods of data analysis adapted to {M}obile {E}arthquake {R}ecorder in {M}arine {A}reas by {I}ndependent {D}ivers ({MERMAID}) seismograms, obtained with hydrophones mounted on moving underwater floats. {I}f the {MERMAID} float comes immediately to the surface after recording an earthquake signal, the seismogram location is obtained from the first {G}lobal {P}ositioning {S}ystem ({GPS}) position, using a correction for the surface drift of the float. {I}n the case of earthquakes recorded without an immediate surfacing, the location is estimated using a linear interpolation between {GPS} positions. {W}e performed a {B}ezier interpolation of the {GPS} positions to estimate a location error. {I}n 67% of the cases, the distance between the two trajectories was less than 500 m. {W}e tested the method on six months of data acquired in the {L}igurian basin ({M}editerranean {S}ea). {T}o validate the (manually) picked onset times for {P} waves, we performed a preliminary tomographic inversion beneath the {L}igurian basin of {MERMAID} data together with a much larger volume of picks from nearby land and ocean-bottom seismometer stations. {A}fter inversion we found that 67% of {MERMAID} data have a misfit between +/- 0:17 s, but the distribution of misfits is not {G}aussian and shows outliers. {W}e conclude that floating seismometers are an excellent and accurate means for covering oceanic areas for {P}-wave tomography.}, keywords = {{MEDITERRANEE} ; {LIGURE} {BASSIN} ; {FRANCE} ; {ITALIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}eismological {R}esearch {L}etters}, volume = {87}, numero = {1}, pages = {73--80}, ISSN = {0895-0695}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1785/0220150111}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010066829}, }
