@article{fdi:010066729, title = {{N}ovel species and expanded distribution of ellipsoidal multicellular magnetotactic prokaryotes}, author = {{C}hen, {Y}. {R}. and {Z}hang, {W}. {Y}. and {Z}hou, {K}. and {P}an, {H}. {M}. and {D}u, {H}. {J}. and {X}u, {C}. and {X}u, {J}. {H}. and {P}radel, {N}athalie and {S}antini, {C}. {L}. and {L}i, {J}. {H}. and {H}uang, {H}. and {P}an, {Y}. {X}. and {X}iao, {T}. and {W}u, {L}. {F}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{M}ulticellular magnetotactic prokaryotes ({MMP}s) are a peculiar group of magnetotactic bacteria, each comprising approximately 10-100 cells of the same phylotype. {T}wo morphotypes of {MMP} have been identified, including several species of globally distributed spherical mulberry-like {MMP}s (s-{MMP}s), and two species of ellipsoidal pineapple-like {MMP}s (e-{MMP}s) from {C}hina ({Q}ingdao and {R}ongcheng cities). {W}e recently collected e-{MMP}s from {M}editerranean {S}ea sediments ({S}ix-{F}ours-les-{P}lages) and {D}rummond {I}sland, in the {S}outh {C}hina {S}ea. {P}hylogenetic analysis revealed that the {MMP}s from {S}ix-{F}ours-les-{P}lages and the previously reported e-{MMP} {C}andidatus{M}agnetananas rongchenensis have 98.5% sequence identity and are the same species, while the {MMP}s from {D}rummond {I}sland appear to be a novel species, having >7.1% sequence divergence from the most closely related e-{MMP}, {C}andidatus{M}agnetananas tsingtaoensis. {I}dentification of the novel species expands the distribution of e-{MMP}s to {T}ropical {Z}one. {C}omparison of nine physical and chemical parameters revealed that sand grain size and the content of inorganic nitrogen (nitrate, ammonium and nitrite) in the sediments from {R}ongcheng {C}ity and {S}ix-{F}ours-les-{P}lages were similar, and lower than found for sediments from the other two sampling sites. {T}he results of the study reveal broad diversity and wide distribution of e-{MMP}s.}, keywords = {{MEDITERRANNEE} ; {CHINE} {MER}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}nvironmental {M}icrobiology {R}eports}, volume = {8}, numero = {2}, pages = {218--226}, ISSN = {1758-2229}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1111/1758-2229.12371}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010066729}, }
