@article{fdi:010066190, title = {{T}he {LPS} {O}-antigen in photosynthetic {B}radyrhizobium strains is dispensable for the establishment of a successful symbiosis with {A}eschynomene legumes}, author = {{B}usset, {N}. and {D}e {F}elice, {A}. and {C}haintreuil, {C}l{\'e}mence and {G}ully, {D}jamel and {F}ardoux, {J}o{\¨e}l and {R}omdhane, {S}. and {M}olinaro, {A}. and {S}ilipo, {A}. and {G}iraud, {E}ric}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he photosynthetic bradyrhizobia are able to use a {N}od-factor independent process to induce nitrogen-fixing nodules on some semi-aquatic {A}eschynomene species. {T}hese bacteria display a unique {LPS} {O}-antigen composed of a new sugar, the bradyrhizose that is regarded as a key symbiotic factor due to its non-immunogenic character. {I}n this study, to check this hypothesis, we isolated mutants affected in the {O}-antigen synthesis by screening a transposon mutant library of the {ORS}285 strain for clones altered in colony morphology. {O}ver the 10,000 mutants screened, five were selected and found to be mutated in two genes, rfa{L}, encoding for a putative {O}-antigen ligase and gdh encoding for a putative d{TDP}-glucose 4,6-dehydratase. {B}iochemical analysis confirmed that the {LPS} of these mutants completely lack the {O}-antigen region. {H}owever, no effect of the mutations could be detected on the symbiotic properties of the mutants indicating that the {O}-antigen region of photosynthetic {B}radyrhizobium strains is not required for the establishment of symbiosis with {A}eschynomene.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}los {O}ne}, volume = {11}, numero = {2}, pages = {e0148884 [14 p.]}, ISSN = {1932-6203}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1371/journal.pone.0148884}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010066190}, }
