@article{fdi:010066151, title = {{C}ontrasted geographical distribution of {N}-2 fixation rates and nif{H} phylotypes in the {C}oral and {S}olomon {S}eas (southwestern {P}acific) during austral winter conditions}, author = {{B}onnet, {S}ophie and {R}odier, {M}artine and {T}urk-{K}ubo, {K}. {A}. and {G}ermineaud, {C}. and {M}enk{\`e}s, {C}hristophe and {G}anachaud, {A}lexandre and {C}ravatte, {S}ophie and {R}aimbault, {P}. and {C}ampbell, {E}. and {Q}ueroue, {F}. and {S}arthou, {G}. and {D}esnues, {A}nne and {M}aes, {C}hristophe and {E}ldin, {G}{\'e}rard}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}iological dinitrogen ({N}-2) fixation and the distribution of diazotrophic phylotypes were investigated during two cruises in the {C}oral {S}ea and the {S}olomon {S}ea (southwestern {P}acific) during austral winter conditions. {N}-2 fixation rates were measurable at every station, but integrated (0-150 m) rates were an order of magnitude higher in the {S}olomon {S}ea (30 to 5449 mu mol {N} m(-2) d(-1)) compared to those measured in the {C}oral {S}ea (2 to 10(9) mu mol {N} m(-2) d(-1)). {R}ates measured in the {S}olomon {S}ea were in the upper range (100-1000 mu mol {N} m(-2) d(-1)) or higher than rates compiled in the global {MAR}ine {E}cosystem biomass {DAT}a database, indicating that this region has some of the highest {N}-2 fixation rates reported in the global ocean. {W}hile unicellular diazotrophic cyanobacteria from group {A} ({UCYN}-{A}1 and {UCYN}-{A}2) and the proteobacteria gamma-24774{A}11 dominated in the {C}oral {S}ea and were correlated with {N}-2 fixation rates (p < 0.05), {T}richodesmium and {UCYN}-{B} dominated in the {S}olomon {S}ea and were correlated (p < 0.05) with {N}-2 fixation rates. {UCYN}-{A} were totally absent in the {S}olomon {S}ea. {T}he biogeographical distribution of diazotrophs is discussed within the context of patterns in measured environmental parameters.}, keywords = {{PACIFIQUE} ; {SALOMON} {MER} ; {CORAIL} {MER}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{G}lobal {B}iogeochemical {C}ycles}, volume = {29}, numero = {11}, pages = {1874--1892}, ISSN = {0886-6236}, year = {2015}, DOI = {10.1002/2015gb005117}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010066151}, }
