@article{fdi:010066144, title = {{L}a {F}alla {S}an {M}ateo : nuevas evidencias paleosismológicas de fallamiento activo en el {G}raben de {A}cambay, {M}{\'e}xico}, author = {{S}unye-{P}uchol, {I}. and {L}acan, {P}. and {O}rtuno, {M}. and {V}illamor, {P}. and {A}udin, {L}aurence and {Z}uniga, {F}. {R}. and {L}angridge, {R}. {M}. and {A}guirre-{D}iaz, {G}. {D}. and {L}awton, {T}. {F}.}, editor = {}, language = {{SPA}}, abstract = {{T}his study focuses on the identification and seismic characterization of the {S}an {M}ateo fault, herein described for the first time. {T}his fault is located in the central part of the {A}cambay graben, central {M}exico. {I}t is a 13 km long active normal fault with {E}-{W} direction and dip to the south. {T}wo trenches were excavated in the locality of {L}a {L}echuguilla to determine the recent chronology of paleoearthquakes along this fault and to estimate its seismic parameters. {A}t least three paleo-breaks have been found in one of these trenches and new radiocarbon ages indicate that they occurred from {L}ate {P}leistocene to the {H}olocene times. {T}he oldest event ({E}vent 1) occurred in 31.0-29.3 ky cal {BP}. {E}vent 2 occurred in 19.1-6.5 ky cal {BP} and the younger faulting ({E}vent 3) in 6.0 to 4.2 cal ky {BP}. {T}hese results suggest a recurrence interval of surface ruptures of about 11.57 +/- 5.32 ky. {A} slip rate of 0.085 +/- 0.025 mm / year and a magnitude ({M}-w) of 6.43 to 6.76 is estimated from the maximum coseismic displacement of 0.85 +/- 0.163 m and a rupture length of 13 km. {I}f we consider a maximum rupture length of 25 km, including the possible continuity of the fault under the present day sediments filling the graben, a {M}-w magnitude of 6.7 +/- 0.3 could be expected. {T}he paleoseismic data and fault scaling relationships suggest that the {S}an {M}ateo fault is a significant seismic source in terms of hazard. {T}his study also highlights the recency of the volcanic activity in the {A}cambay graben.}, keywords = {{T}rans-{M}exican {V}olcanic {B}elt ; seismicity ; neotectonics ; active faulting ; {MEXIQUE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{R}evista {M}exicana de {C}iencias {G}eologicas}, volume = {32}, numero = {3}, pages = {361--376}, ISSN = {1026-8774}, year = {2015}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010066144}, }
