@article{fdi:010066052, title = {{G}eomorphic control of rain-forest floristic composition in {F}rench {G}uiana : more than a soil filtering effect ?}, author = {{G}uitet, {S}. and {F}reycon, {V}. and {B}runaux, {O}. and {P}{\'e}lissier, {R}apha{\¨e}l and {S}abatier, {D}aniel and {C}outeron, {P}ierre}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he influence of geomorphological features on rain-forest diversity has been reported in different {A}mazonian regions. {S}oil filtering is often assumed to underlie the observed geomorphic control on the floristic composition but other hypotheses related to biogeography or long-term forest dynamics are also possible. {W}e tested relationships between geomorphology, soil properties and forest composition in {F}rench {G}uiana rain forest using a recent geomorphological map and a large dataset comprising 3132 0.2-ha plots and 421 soil cores. {S}oil properties were characterized by laboratory analyses and by field descriptions indicating drainage capacity and classification according to the {W}orld {R}eference {B}ase ({WRB}). {T}he influence of soils and geomorphology on beta-diversity was tested using variance partitioning and {ANOVA}-like tests. {O}ur results confirm the hypothesis of a strong relationship between geomorphological landscapes and soil properties. {S}oil filtering significantly influenced the abundance of more than 40 species or groups of species. {H}owever geomorphic control of forest composition involves much more than the effects of the soil, which only explain a minor part of the broad-scale patterns of forest diversity related to geomorphological landscapes. {T}hese results reinforce the alternative hypotheses linking geomorphological landscapes to long-term forest change under the control of historical processes that shaped forest diversity.}, keywords = {beta-diversity ; edaphic filter ; floristic composition ; geomorphology ; limited dispersion ; tropical forest ; {GUYANE} {FRANCAISE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {T}ropical {E}cology}, volume = {32}, numero = {1}, pages = {22--40}, ISSN = {0266-4674}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1017/s0266467415000620}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010066052}, }
