@article{fdi:010065515, title = {{F}usibacter fontis sp. nov., a sulfur-reducing, anaerobic bacterium isolated from a mesothermic {T}unisian spring}, author = {{F}adhlaoui, {K}. and {B}en {H}ania, {W}ajdi and {P}ostec, {A}. and {F}auque, {G}. and {H}amdi, {M}. and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}train {K}hal{AKB}1({T}), a mesophilic, anaerobic, rod-shaped bacterium, was isolated from water collected from a mesothermic {T}unisian spring. {C}ells were {G}ram-staining-{P}ositive rods, occurring singly or in pairs and motile by one lateral flagellum. {S}train {K}hal{AKB}1({T}) grew at 15-45 degrees {C} (optimum 30 degrees {C}), at p{H} 5.5-8.5 (optimum p{H} 7.0) and in the presence of 0-35 g {N}a{C}l l(-1) (optimum 1 g {N}a{C}l l(-1)). {I}t fermented yeast extract and a wide range of carbohydrates including cellobiose, {D}-glucose, {D}-ribose, sucrose, {D}-xylose, maltose, {D}-galactose and starch as electron donors. {A}cetate, ethanol, {CO}2 and {H}-2 were end products of glucose metabolism. {I}t reduced elemental sulfur, but not sulfate, thiosulfate or sulfite, into sulfide. {T}he {DNA} {G}+{C} content was 37.6 mol%. {T}he predominant cellular fatty acids were {C}-14 : 0 and {C}-16 : 0. {P}hylogenetic analysis of the 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence suggested {F}usibacter bizertensis as the closest relative of this isolate (identity of 97.2 % to the type strain). {B}ased on phenotypic, phylogenetic and genotypic taxonomic characteristics, strain {K}hal{AKB}1({T}) is proposed to be assigned to a novel species within the genus {F}usibacter, order {C}lostridiales, {F}usibacter fontis sp. nov. {T}he type strain is {K}hal{AKB}1({T}) (={DSM} 28450({T})={JCM} 19912({T})).}, keywords = {{TUNISIE} ; {BIZERTE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {65}, numero = {10}, pages = {3501--3506}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2015}, DOI = {10.1099/ijsem.0.000445}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010065515}, }
