@article{fdi:010065365, title = {{A}cetoanaerobium pronyense sp. nov., an anaerobic alkaliphilic bacterium isolated from a carbonate chimney of the {P}rony {H}ydrothermal {F}ield ({N}ew {C}aledonia)}, author = {{B}es, {M}. and {M}errouch, {M}. and {J}oseph, {M}anon and {Q}u{\'e}m{\'e}neur, {M}arianne and {P}ayri, {C}laude and {P}elletier, {B}ernard and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure and {E}rausol, {G}. and {P}ostec, {A}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} novel anaerobic bacterial strain, {ST}07-{YET}, was isolated from a carbonate chimney of the {P}rony {H}ydrothermal {F}ield ({PHF}) in {N}ew {C}aledonia. {C}ells were {G}ram-stain-positive, straight rods (0.7-0.8 x 3.0-5.0 mu m) and motile by means of lateral flagella. {S}train {ST}07-{YET} was mesophilic (optimum 35 degrees {C}), moderately alkaliphilic and halotolerant (optimum p{H} 8.7 and 5 gr l(-1) {N}a{C}l). {E}lemental sulfur, sulfate, thiosulfate, sulfite, nitrate and nitrite were not used as terminal electron acceptors. {Y}east extract, peptone, tryptone, {C}asamino acids, crotonate, pyruvate, galactose, maltose, sucrose, ribose, trehalose and glucose were used as carbon sources. {G}lucose fermentation led to acetate, {H}-2 and {CO}2 formation. {A}rginine, serine, histidine, lysine, methionine and cysteine improved growth, but the {S}tickland reaction was negative for the combinations of amino acids tested. {T}he major metabolic products from yeast extract fermentation were {H}-2, {CO}2, acetate, butyrate, isobutyrate, isovalerate and propionate. {T}he predominant cellular fatty acids were {C}-16:0, {C}(16:1)cis9, {C}-14: 0 and {C}(16:1)cis7 (>5 % of total fatty acids). {T}he {G}+{C} content of the genomic {DNA} was 32.9 mol%. {P}hylogenetic analysis revealed that strain {ST}07-{YET} was most closely related to {C}lostridium sticklandii {DSM} 519({T}) and {A}cetoanaerobium noterae {NOT}-3({T}) (96.7 % and 96.8 % 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence similarity, respectively). {O}n the basis of phylogenetic, chemotaxonomic and physiological properties, strain {ST}07-{YET} is proposed to represent a novel species of the genus {A}cetoanaerobium (order {C}lostridiales, phylum {F}irmicutes) with the name {A}cetoanaerobium pronyense sp. nov. {T}he type strain is {ST}07-{YET} (={DSM} 27512({T})={JCM} 19400({T})).}, keywords = {{NOUVELLE} {CALEDONIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {65}, numero = {8}, pages = {2574--2580}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2015}, DOI = {10.1099/ijs.0.000307}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010065365}, }
