@article{fdi:010065350, title = {{P}elagic population dynamics of {A}urelia sp. in {F}rench {M}editerranean lagoons}, author = {{M}arques, {R}. and {A}lbouy-{B}oyer, {S}. and {D}elpy, {F}. and {C}arr{\'e}, {C}laire and {L}e {F}loc'h, {E}. and {R}oques, {C}. and {M}olinero, {J}. {C}. and {B}onnet, {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he pelagic dynamics of the cosmopolitan scyphozoan {A}urelia sp. was investigated in three {F}rench {M}editerranean lagoons, {T}hau, {B}erre and {B}ages-{S}igean, which harbour resident populations. {T}he annual cycles showed a common univoltine pattern in all lagoons where the presence of pelagic stages in the water column lasted similar to 8 months. {F}ield observations showed a release of ephyrae in winter time followed by pronounced growth between {A}pril and {J}uly, when individuals reached the largest sizes, before disappearing from the water column. {M}aximum abundance of ephyrae and medusae were registered in {T}hau. {M}edusae abundance attained a maximum of 331 ind 100 m(-3) in {T}hau, 18 ind 100 m(-3) in {B}erre and 7 ind 100 m(-3) in {B}ages-{S}igean lagoons. {T}emperature and zooplankton abundance appeared as leading factors of growth, where {B}ages-{S}igean showed the population with higher growth rates (2.66 mm day(-1)) and maximum size (32 cm), followed by {T}hau (0.57-2.56 mm day(-1); 22.4 cm) and {B}erre (1.57-2.22 mm day(-1); 17 cm). {T}he quantification of environmental windows used by the species showed wider ranges than previously reported in the {M}editerranean {S}ea, which suggests a wide ecological plasticity of {A}urelia spp. populations in north-western {M}editerranean lagoons.}, keywords = {ephyrae ; medusae ; {A}urelia sp. ; {M}editerranean {S}ea ; population dynamics ; growth ; {FRANCE} ; {MEDITERRANEE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {P}lankton {R}esearch}, volume = {37}, numero = {5}, pages = {1019--1035}, ISSN = {0142-7873}, year = {2015}, DOI = {10.1093/plankt/fbv059}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010065350}, }
