(1) {F}armer seed networks are inefficient for seed dissemination. (2) {F}armer seed networks are closed, conservative systems. (3) {F}armer seed networks provide ready, egalitarian access to seed. (4) {F}armer seed networks are destined to weaken and disappear. {W}e challenge these misconceptions by drawing upon recent research findings and the authors' collective field experience in studying farmer seed systems in {A}frica, {E}urope, {L}atin {A}merica and {O}ceania. {P}riorities for future research are suggested that would advance our understanding of seed networks and better inform agricultural and food policy.}, keywords = {{SEMENCE} ; {CULTIVAR} ; {CONSERVATION} {DES} {RESSOURCES} {GENETIQUES} ; {ETHNOBOTANIQUE} ; {SECTEUR} {INFORMEL} ; {AGRICULTEUR} ; {SYSTEME} {DE} {REPRESENTATIONS} ; {TIERS} {MONDE} ; {DEVELOPPEMENT} {RURAL} ; {AMELIORATION} {DES} {PLANTES} ; {SELECTION} ; {DIVERSITE} {SPECIFIQUE} ; {AGRODIVERSITE} ; {AFRIQUE} ; {EUROPE} ; {AMERIQUE} {LATINE} ; {OCEANIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{F}ood {P}olicy}, volume = {56}, numero = {}, pages = {41--50}, ISSN = {0306-9192}, year = {2015}, DOI = {10.1016/j.foodpol.2015.07.008}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010065147}, }
