@article{fdi:010064061, title = {{P}hylogeny of nodulation genes and symbiotic diversity of {A}cacia senegal ({L}.) {W}illd. and {A}. seyal ({D}el.) {M}esorhizobium strains from different regions of {S}enegal}, author = {{B}akhoum, {N}. and {G}aliana, {A}. and {L}e {R}oux, {C}. and {K}ane, {A}. and {D}uponnois, {R}obin and {N}doye, {F}. and {F}all, {D}. and {N}oba, {K}. and {S}ylla, {S}. {N}. and {D}iouf, {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A}cacia senegal and {A}cacia seyal are small, deciduous legume trees, most highly valued for nitrogen fixation and for the production of gum arabic, a commodity of international trade since ancient times. {S}ymbiotic nitrogen fixation by legumes represents the main natural input of atmospheric {N}-2 into ecosystems which may ultimately benefit all organisms. {W}e analyzed the nod and nif symbiotic genes and symbiotic properties of root-nodulating bacteria isolated from {A}. senegal and {A}. seyal in {S}enegal. {T}he symbiotic genes of rhizobial strains from the two {A}cacia species were closed to those of {M}esorhizobium plurifarium and grouped separately in the phylogenetic trees. {P}hylogeny of rhizobial nitrogen fixation gene nif{H} was similar to those of nodulation genes (nod{A} and nod{C}). {A}ll {A}. senegal rhizobial strains showed identical nod{A}, nod{C}, and nif{H} gene sequences. {B}y contrast, {A}. seyal rhizobial strains exhibited different symbiotic gene sequences. {E}fficiency tests demonstrated that inoculation of both {A}cacia species significantly affected nodulation, total dry weight, acetylene reduction activity ({ARA}), and specific acetylene reduction activity ({SARA}) of plants. {H}owever, these cross-inoculation tests did not show any specificity of {M}esorhizobium strains toward a given {A}cacia host species in terms of infectivity and efficiency as stated by principal component analysis ({PCA}). {T}his study demonstrates that large-scale inoculation of {A}. senegal and {A}. seyal in the framework of reafforestation programs requires a preliminary step of rhizobial strain selection for both {A}cacia species.}, keywords = {{A}cacia senegal ; {A}cacia seyal ; {P}hylogeny ; {S}ymbiotic genes ; {N}itrogen fixation ; {C}ross-inoculation ; {SENEGAL}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{M}icrobial {E}cology}, volume = {69}, numero = {3}, pages = {641--651}, ISSN = {0095-3628}, year = {2015}, DOI = {10.1007/s00248-014-0507-1}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010064061}, }
