@article{fdi:010063992, title = {{L}arval habitats characterization and species composition of anopheles mosquitoes in {T}unisia, with particular attention to {A}nopheles maculipennis complex}, author = {{T}abbabi, {A}. and {B}ouss{\`e}s, {P}hilippe and {R}him, {A}. and {B}rengues, {C}{\'e}cile and {D}aaboub, {J}. and {B}en-{A}laya-{B}ouafif, {N}. and {F}ontenille, {D}idier and {B}ouratbine, {A}. and {S}imard, {F}r{\'e}d{\'e}ric and {A}oun, {K}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}n {T}unisia, malaria transmission has been interrupted since 1980. {H}owever, the growing number of imported cases and the persistence of putative vectors stress the need for additional studies to assess the risk of malaria resurgence in the country. {I}n this context, our aim was to update entomological data concerning {A}nopheles mosquitoes in {T}unisia. {F}rom {M}ay to {O}ctober of 2012, mosquito larval specimens were captured in 60 breeding sites throughout the country and identified at the species level using morphological keys. {E}nvironmental parameters of the larval habitats were recorded. {S}pecimens belonging to the {A}n. maculipennis complex were further identified to sibling species by the ribosomal deoxyribonucleic acid (r{DNA})-internal transcribed spacer 2 ({ITS}2) polymerase chain reaction ({PCR}) technique. {I}n total, 647 {A}nopheles larvae were collected from 25 habitats. {F}our species, including {A}n. labranchiae, {A}n. multicolor, {A}n. sergentii, and {A}n. algeriensis, were morphologically identified. r{DNA}-{ITS}2 {PCR} confirmed that {A}n. labranchiae is the sole member of the {A}n. maculipennis complex in {T}unisia. {A}n. labranchiae was collected throughout northern and central {T}unisia, and it was highly associated with rural habitat, clear water, and sunlight areas. {L}arvae of {A}n. multicolor and {A}n. sergentii existed separately or together and were collected in southern {T}unisia in similar types of breeding places.}, keywords = {{TUNISIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{A}merican {J}ournal of {T}ropical {M}edicine and {H}ygiene}, volume = {92}, numero = {3}, pages = {653--659}, ISSN = {0002-9637}, year = {2015}, DOI = {10.4269/ajtmh.14-0513}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010063992}, }
