@article{fdi:010063622, title = {{C}haracterization of {A}lkaliphilus hydrothermalis sp nov., a novel alkaliphilic anaerobic bacterium, isolated from a carbonaceous chimney of the {P}rony hydrothermal field, {N}ew {C}aledonia}, author = {{B}en {A}issa, {F}. and {P}ostec, {A}. and {E}rauso, {G}. and {P}ayri, {C}laude and {P}elletier, {B}ernard and {H}amdi, {M}. and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure and {O}llivier, {B}ernard}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} novel anaerobic, alkaliphilic, {G}ram-positive staining bacterium was isolated from a hydrothermal chimney in the {P}rony {B}ay, {N}ew {C}aledonia. {T}his strain designated {F}at{MR}1({T}) grew at temperatures from 20 to 55 {A} degrees {C} (optimum 37 {A} degrees {C}) and at p{H} between 7.5 and 10.5 (optimum 8.8-9). {N}a{C}l is not required for growth (optimum 0.2-0.5 %), but is tolerated up to 3 %. {S}ulfate, thiosulfate, elemental sulfur, sulfite, nitrate and nitrite are not used as terminal electron acceptors. {S}train {F}at{MR}1({T}) fermented pyruvate, yeast extract, peptone and biotrypcase and used fructose as the only sugar. {T}he main fermentation products from fructose and proteinaceous compounds (e.g. peptone and biotrypcase) were acetate, {H}-2 and {CO}2. {C}rotonate was disproportionated to acetate and butyrate. {T}he predominant cellular fatty acids were {C}-14:0 and {C}-16:0. {T}he {G} + {C} content of the genomic {DNA} was 37.1 mol %. {O}n the basis of phylogenetic, genetic, and physiological properties, strain {F}at{MR}1({T}) (={DSM} 25890({T}), ={JCM} 18390({T})) belonging to the phylum {F}irmicutes, class {C}lostridia, order {C}lostridiales, is proposed as a novel species of the genus {A}lkaliphilus, {A}. hydrothermalis sp. nov.}, keywords = {{F}irmicutes ; {A}lkaliphilus hydrothermalis ; {A}lkaliphilic ; {A}naerobic ; {A}lkaline hydrothermal vents ; {S}erpentinization ; {N}ew {C}aledonia ; {NOUVELLE} {CALEDONIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}xtremophiles}, volume = {19}, numero = {1}, pages = {183--188}, ISSN = {1431-0651}, year = {2015}, DOI = {10.1007/s00792-014-0697-y}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010063622}, }
