@article{fdi:010063222, title = {{C}oastal acid sulfate soils in the {S}aloum river basin, {S}enegal}, author = {{L}amine {F}all, {A}.{C}.{A} and {M}ontoroi, {J}ean-{P}ierre and {S}tarh, {K}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}oils in boundary conditions of contrasting ecosystems generally show unique features. {T}ransition often leads to changes in soil-forming processes, whereby the environment never comes to equilibrium and therefore the soil chemistry and mineralogy show different influences. {S}uch an environment was analysed in the {S}aloum {R}iver basin, west-central {S}enegal. {T}he objective was to identify the main pedogenic processes prevailing in this saline and acid pedoenvironment and to assess the influence of environmental factors (climate, topography, soil salinity and acidity) on local soil formation and mineral distribution. {T}he terrace landscape is built up by a floodplain, a low terrace, which is still influenced by groundwater, and a middle terrace. {T}he results show that soil properties are strongly influenced by hydrology, salinity and acidity in the entire toposequence: {G}leyic {H}yposalic and {H}ypersalic {S}olonchaks ({S}ulfatic) in the floodplain, {H}aplic {G}leysols ({T}hionic) in the low terrace, and {E}ndogleyic {A}renosols in the middle terrace. {T}he oxidation of pyrite followed by the redistribution of the main products ({F}e2+ and {SO}4 2–) represents the major chemical process responsible for iron oxide and jarosite formation. {M}ineral distribution and crystallinity are linked to the landscape position, which controls the hydrological behaviour and reactions of {F}e and {S} ions. {F}inally, we observed intrapedon processes such as gleysation, sulfidisation and sulfurisation, as well as interpedon processes such as salinisation, colluvio-alluviation and lateral eluviation. {T}he combination of processes depends strongly on the landscape positions.}, keywords = {{SOL} ; {CATENA} ; {ACIDIFICATION} ; {SALINISATION} ; {ZONE} {COTIERE} ; {PLAINE} {INONDABLE} ; {ALTERATION} {CHIMIQUE} ; {PEDOGENESE} ; {ANALYSE} {MINERALOGIQUE} ; {FER} ; {SULFURE} ; {TOPOGRAPHIE} ; {SENEGAL} ; {SALOUM} {DELTA} ; {KAOLACK} {REGION}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}oil {R}esearch}, volume = {52}, numero = {7}, pages = {671--684}, ISSN = {0371-1897}, year = {2014}, DOI = {10.1071/{SR}14033}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010063222}, }
