(={S}tegomyia aegypti) and {C}ulex quinquefasciatus {S}ay to {DEET}, one of the most common synthetic repellent active ingredients available. {T}wo field populations of {A}e. aegypti and {C}x. quinquefasciatus from {K}anchanaburi and {N}onthaburi provinces, respectively, and two long-standing laboratory populations, {A}e. aegypti obtained from the {U}. {S}. {D}epartment of {A}griculture, and {C}x. quinquefasciatus from the {M}inistry of {P}ublic {H}ealth, {T}hailand, were used. {E}ach population was exposed to {DEET} during two different periods of time (0900-1500 hours) and (2100-0300 hours). {B}oth field and laboratory {C}x. quinquefasciatus showed marked differences in spatial repellent escape responses between day and nighttime periods but none in direct contact tests. {N}o significant differences between day and nighttime testing periods were observed with field or laboratory {A}e. aegypti, except a higher daytime escape response from noncontact {DEET} treatment. {T}his study indicates that test time may influence the behavioral avoidance responses and is a potential confounder of excito-repellency evaluations.}, keywords = {{DEET} ; excito-repellency ; {A}edes aegypti ; {C}ulex quinquefasciatus ; {THAILANDE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {M}edical {E}ntomology}, volume = {51}, numero = {6}, pages = {1227--1236}, ISSN = {0022-2585}, year = {2014}, DOI = {10.1603/me14004}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010062716}, }
