@article{fdi:010062638, title = {{S}tress field variations along the {M}aghreb region derived from inversion of major seismic crisis fault plane solutions}, author = {{O}usadou, {F}. and {D}orbath, {L}ouis and {A}yadi, {A}. and {D}orbath, {C}atherine and {G}harbi, {S}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}his study is devoted to the analysis of the stress state along the {M}aghreb region based on the inversion of focal solutions. {W}e have inverted the main shock and aftershock focal mechanisms of the strongest seismic events that occurred in five seismogenic zones, from west to east: {A}l {H}oceima (2004), {C}heliff (1980), {T}ipasa-{C}henoua (1989), {Z}emmouri (2003) and {C}onstantine (1985). {M}ost of the focal mechanisms of the aftershock sequences have been constructed within this study. {C}ompressive stress regime is observed in the central part of {A}lgeria between {C}heliff and {Z}emmouri. {O}n both edges of the {M}aghreb region, the stress regime becomes strike-slip in the {C}onstantine region and in the {M}oroccan {R}ift. {T}hese different regimes seem to be linked to the free-edge effect ({I}onian slab subduction) and to the dynamics of the {A}lboran {S}ea in the eastern and western parts of the study area respectively. {T}he sigma 1 directions experience an anticlockwise rotation of about 200 from eastern to central {A}lgeria. {W}e observe that the direction of sigma 1 and the direction of convergence are the closest in central {A}lgeria, where the collision is not perturbed by edge effect.}, keywords = {{S}tress tensor ; {F}ocal mechanism inversion ; {C}ompressive regime ; {T}ectonic deformation ; {I}bero-{M}aghreb region ; {ALGERIE} ; {MAROC} ; {TUNISIE} ; {MAGHREB}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{T}ectonophysics}, volume = {632}, numero = {}, pages = {261--280}, ISSN = {0040-1951}, year = {2014}, DOI = {10.1016/j.tecto.2014.06.017}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010062638}, }
