@article{fdi:010062406, title = {{G}enetic diversity of {J}atropha curcas {L}. in {S}enegal compared with exotic accessions based on microsatellite markers}, author = {{O}uattara, {B}. and {N}dir, {K}. {N}. and {G}ueye, {M}. {C}. and {D}iedhiou, {I}. and {B}arnaud, {A}deline and {F}onceka, {D}. and {C}isse, {N}. and {A}kpo, {E}. {L}. and {D}iouf, {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}ignificant efforts have been undertaken in {W}est {A}frica to increase biofuel production with the expectation to alleviate the dependency on fossil energies and to reduce rural poverty by diversifying cultivated crops. {I}n this context, {J}atropha curcas {L}., a shrub belonging to {E}uphorbiaceae family, has gained great interest because of its oil which can be converted to biodiesel. {I}t is also highly adaptable to marginal soils due to its drought-tolerant characteristics. {C}haracterisation of {J}. curcas germplasm in {S}enegal could be an important input for its better management and in identifying genotypes that could be used in breeding program. {G}enetic diversity of 103 accessions including 82 accessions from different agro ecological zones in {S}enegal and 21 exotic accessions was assessed through 33 microsatellite markers. {A}ll the markers gave amplifications at the expected band size. {O}nly one microsatellite marker, {JCT}17, was polymorphic showing 3 alleles and allows distinguishing 2 accessions from {B}urkina {F}aso. {T}he surprisingly low level of genetic variation might be because introduction of {J}. curcas in {S}enegal seems to have been done from one or a few origins and the species has not regained genetic diversity since then due to vegetative propagation. {C}ultivation of {J}. curcas at large scale may face to vulnerability to pests and require many cautions. {T}hey are necessity to widen the genetic base of {J}. curcas in {S}enegal via new introductions from its centre of origin.}, keywords = {{G}enetic diversity ; {J}atropha curcas ; {M}icrosatellite marker ; {S}enegal ; {SENEGAL}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{G}enetic {R}esources and {C}rop {E}volution}, volume = {61}, numero = {6}, pages = {1039--1045}, ISSN = {0925-9864}, year = {2014}, DOI = {10.1007/s10722-014-0106-5}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010062406}, }
