@article{fdi:010062389, title = {{V}allitalea pronyensis sp nova, isolated from a marine alkaline hydrothermal chimney}, author = {{B}en {A}issa, {F}. and {P}ostec, {A}. and {E}rauso, {G}. and {P}ayri, {C}laude and {P}elletier, {B}ernard and {H}amdi, {M}. and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} novel thermotolerant, anaerobic, {G}ram-stain-positive, spore-forming bacterium was isolated from a hydrothermal chimney in {P}rony {B}ay, {N}ew {C}aledonia. {T}his strain, designated {F}at{N}l3({T}), grew at 15-55 degrees {C} (optimum 30 degrees {C}) and at p{H} 5.8-8.9 (optimum 7.7). {I}t was slightly halophilic, requiring at least 0.5% {N}a{C}l for growth (optimum 2.5-3.0 %), and was able to grow at up to 6% {N}a{C}l. {S}ulfate, thiosulfate, elemental sulfur, sulfite, nitrate and nitrite were not used as terminal electron acceptors. {G}rowth of strain {F}at{N}l3({T}) was inhibited in the presence of sulfite (2 m{M}) or nitrite (2 m{M}). {S}train {F}at{N}l3({T}) fermented cellobiose, glucose, mannose, maltose, sucrose, galactose, lactose, ribose, fructose, rhannnose, raffinose, xylose, yeast extract, peptone and biotrypticase. {T}he main fermentation products from glucose metabolism were acetate, ethanol, {H}-2 and {CO}2. {T}he predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-{C}-15:0 and anteiso-{C}-15:0. {T}he main polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, and unknown glycolipids and phospholipids. {T}he {G}+{C} content of the genomic {DNA} was 36.6 mol%. {O}n the basis of phylogenetic and physiological properties, strain {F}at{N}l3({T}) (={DSM} 25904={JCM} 18391) belonging to the phylum {F}irmicutes, class {C}lostridia, order {C}lostridiales, is proposed as the type strain of a novel species of the genus {V}allitalea, for which the name {V}allitalea pronyensis sp. nov. is proposed.}, keywords = {{NOUVELLE} {CALEDONIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {64}, numero = {4}, pages = {1160--1165}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2014}, DOI = {10.1099/ijs.0.055756-0}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010062389}, }
