@article{fdi:010061989, title = {{A} proteomic approach of {B}radyrhizobium/{A}eschynomene root and stem symbioses reveals the importance of the fix{A} locus for symbiosis}, author = {{D}elmotte, {N}. and {M}ondy, {S}. and {A}lunni, {B}. and {F}ardoux, {J}o{\¨e}l and {C}haintreuil, {C}l{\'e}mence and {V}orholt, {J}. {A}. and {G}iraud, {E}ric and {G}ourion, {B}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{R}hizobia are soil bacteria that are able to form symbiosis with plant hosts of the legume family. {T}hese associations result in the formation of organs, called nodules in which bacteria fix atmospheric nitrogen to the benefit of the plant. {M}ost of our knowledge on the metabolism and the physiology of the bacteria during symbiosis derives from studying roots nodules of terrestrial plants. {H}ere we used a proteomics approach to investigate the bacterial physiology of photosynthetic {B}radyrhizobium sp. {ORS}278 during the symbiotic process with the semi aquatical plant {A}eschynomene indica that forms root and stem nodules. {W}e analyzed the proteomes of bacteria extracted from each type of nodule. {F}irst, we analyzed the bacteroid proteome at two different time points and found only minor variation between the bacterial proteomes of 2-week- and 3-week-old nodules. {H}igh conservation of the bacteroid proteome was also found when comparing stem nodules and root nodules. {A}mong the stem nodule specific proteins were those related to the phototrophic ability of {B}radyrhizobium sp. {ORS}278. {F}urthermore, we compared our data with those obtained during an extensive genetic screen previously published. {T}he symbiotic role of four candidate genes which corresponding proteins were found massively produced in the nodules but not identified during this screening was examined. {M}utant analysis suggested that in addition to the {E}tf{AB} system, the fix{A} locus is required for symbiotic efficiency.}, keywords = {proteome ; photosynthetic {B}radyrhizobium ; symbiotic nitrogen fixation ; stem nodulation ; fix{A}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {M}olecular {S}ciences}, volume = {15}, numero = {3}, pages = {3660--3670}, ISSN = {1422-0067}, year = {2014}, DOI = {10.3390/ijms15033660}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010061989}, }
