@article{fdi:010061760, title = {{S}patial and seasonal variabilities of dissolved hydrocarbons in surface waters from the {N}orthwestern {M}editerranean {S}ea : results from one year intensive sampling}, author = {{G}uigue, {C}. and {T}edetti, {M}arc and {F}erretto, {N}. and {G}arcia, {N}. and {M}ejanelle, {L}. and {G}outx, {M}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{D}issolved aliphatic hydrocarbons ({AH}s) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons ({PAH}s) were analysed from surface water collected in continental, harbour and off-shore marine sites from {M}arseilles coastal area ({N}orthwestern {M}editerranean {S}ea) from {F}ebruary 2011 to {F}ebruary 2012. {AH} and {PAH} concentrations were in the range of 0.04-0.53 mu g 1(-1) and 8.1-405 ng 1(-1), respectively. {T}hey both displayed seasonal and spatial variations in their concentrations and molecular composition. {T}he lowest {AH} concentrations were found in summer and the highest {PAH} concentrations in winter. {B}oth natural and anthropogenic (pyrogenic and petrogenic) hydrocarbon sources were identified. {I}n winter, concentrations and composition patterns highlighted an increase in the signature of unburned and combusted fossil fuels, while they suggested an enhancement of weathering processes in summer months. {H}ydrocarbon inputs to the dissolved phase seemed to originate mainly from the atmosphere and the {R}hone {R}iver. {H}ydrocarbon additional sources were identified only at the harbour site, emphasising the intense shipping traffic and industrial activities occurring in one of the most important {M}editerranean harbours. {T}his study underscores the strong dynamics of dissolved hydrocarbons and the uncoupling of the sources, transport and removing processes affecting {AH}s and {PAH}s. {I}t also demonstrates the pertinence of taking this dynamics into account for the budget assessments of organic pollutants in coastal environments.}, keywords = {{A}liphatic hydrocarbons ; {P}olycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons ; {D}issolved contaminants ; {N}orthwestern {M}editerranean sea ; {M}arseilles coastal area ; {R}hone {R}iver ; {FRANCE} ; {MEDITERRANNEE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}cience of the {T}otal {E}nvironment}, volume = {466}, numero = {}, pages = {650--662}, ISSN = {0048-9697}, year = {2014}, DOI = {10.1016/j.scitotenv.2013.07.082}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010061760}, }
