  abstract = {{S}eventeen species and sub-species of fishes belonging to four families ({C}yprinidae, {C}lariidae, {A}plocheilidae, {C}ichlidae) were known to occur in perennial bodies of water in the {S}ahara desert. {T}he study of fishes collected in {L}ake {B}oukou near {O}unianga {S}erir ({B}orkou, northern {C}had) shows, for the first time, the occurrence in the {S}ahara desert of relict populations of {P}olypterus senegalus ({P}olypteridae) and {P}oropanchax normani ({P}oeciliidae). {T}he {C}ichlidae {T}ilapia zilli was also collected in this lake. {W}ith these new records, the relict fish fauna currently known in lakes and gueltas of the {B}orkou plateaus comprises six species. {I}n the {E}nnedi {M}ountains, where the specific status of {B}arbus populations was unclear, {B}. macrops was collected in {B}achikere guelta. {T}he toad {A}mietophtynus regularis was collected in {O}unianga {K}ebir.},
