@article{fdi:010061436, title = {{I}solation and characterization of {D}esulfocurvus thunnarius sp. nov., a sulfate-reducing bacterium isolated from an anaerobic sequencing batch reactor treating cooking wastewater}, author = {{H}amdi, {O}. and {B}en {H}ania, {W}ajdi and {P}ostec, {A}. and {B}artoli, {M}. and {H}amdi, {M}. and {B}ouallagui, {H}. and {F}auque, {G}. and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} novel anaerobic, chemo-organotrophic, sulfate-reducing bacterium, designated strain {O}lac 40({T}), was isolated from a {T}unisian wastewater digestor. {C}ells were curved, motile rods or vibrios (5.0-7.0x0.5 mu m). {S}train {O}lac 40({T}) grew at temperatures between 15 and 50 degrees {C} (optimum 40 degrees {C}), and between p{H} 5.0 and 9.0 (optimum p{H} 7.1). {I}t did not require {N}a{C}l for growth but tolerated it up to 50 g l(-1) (optimum 2 g l(-1)). {I}n the presence of sulfate or thiosulfate, strain {O}lac 40({T}) used lactate, pyruvate and formate as energy sources. {G}rowth was observed on {H}-2 only in the presence of acetate as carbon source. {I}n the presence of sulfate or thiosulfate, the end products of lactate oxidation were acetate, sulfide and {CO}2. {S}ulfate, thiosulfate and sulfite were used as terminal electron acceptors, but not elemental sulfur, nitrate or nitrite. {T}he genomic {DNA} {G}+{C} content of strain {O}lac 40({T}) was 70 mol%. {T}he profile of polar lipids consisted of phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, aminophospholipid and four phospholipids. {T}he main fatty acids were {C}-16:0, anteiso-{C}-15:0 and iso-{C}-15:0. {P}hylogenetic analysis of the 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence indicated that strain {O}lac 40({T}) was affiliated with the family {D}esulfovibrionaceae within the class {D}eltaproteobacteria. {O}n the basis of 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence comparisons and physiological characteristics, strain {O}lac 40({T}) is proposed to be assigned to a novel species of the genus {D}esulfocurvus, for which the name {D}esulfocurvus thunnarius is proposed. {T}he type strain is {O}lac 40({T}) (={DSM} 26129({T})={JCM} 18546({T})).}, keywords = {{TUNISIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {63}, numero = {11}, pages = {4237--4242}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1099/ijs.0.051664-0}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010061436}, }
