@article{fdi:010061342, title = {{T}axonomic assessment of {A}nopheles crawfordi and {A}n. dangi of the {H}yrcanus group of subgenus {A}nopheles in {V}ietnam}, author = {{N}go, {C}. {T}. and {H}arbach, {R}. {E}. and {G}arros, {C}. and {P}arzy, {D}. and {L}e, {H}. {Q}. and {M}anguin, {S}ylvie}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A}nopheles dangi, introduced as a new species of the {H}yrcanus {G}roup of subgenus {A}nopheles in an illustrated dichotomous key for the identification of the {A}nopheles mosquitoes of {V}ietnam published in 1987, was distinguished from {A}nopheles crawfordi based on the presence of a humeral pale spot on the base of the costal vein of the wing. {H}owever, this character has been known to occur occasionally in {A}n. crawfordi. {T}o determine whether {A}n. dangi is distinct from {A}n. crawfordi, we analyzed nucleotide sequences of the {COI}, {COII} and {C}yt-b genes of mt{DNA} and the {D}3 gene of r{DNA} obtained from specimens collected in south-central {V}ietnam that were identified as {A}n. dangi and {A}n. crawfordi based on the presence or absence, respectively, of a humeral pale spot. {M}aximum {L}ikelihood and {B}ayesian analyses of the sequences showed a low mean genetic distance of 0.004 for specimens identified as {A}n. crawfordi and 0.008 for those identified as {A}n. dangi. {T}he mean genetic distance between the two nominal species was 0.006, compared with 0.077 for any group versus the outgroup taxa {A}nopheles dims and {A}nopheles minimus, and the specimens of the two forms clustered in a single strongly supported clade. {C}onsequently, {A}n. dangi is merely a morphological variant of {A}n. crawfordi and is deemed to be a synonym of that nominal species.}, keywords = {{A}nopheles dangi ; {A}nopheles crawfordi ; {H}yrcanus {G}roup ; {V}ietnam ; {P}hylogenetic analysis ; {VIET} {NAM}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{A}cta {T}ropica}, volume = {128}, numero = {3}, pages = {623--629}, ISSN = {0001-706{X}}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1016/j.actatropica.2013.09.004}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010061342}, }
